The Greater Victoria Greenbelt Society has been encouraging and initiating the preservation of green space and parkland in the Greater Victoria Area since 1979.
Our present initiative is the creation of the Mary Lake Nature Park in the Highlands District just 25 min. from Victoria. It will create an important wild life corridor and trail link between Thetis Lake Park and the Gowlland Tod Park to complete a 25 km hiking trail loop.
The conservation of the 73 acre Coastal Douglas Fir Forest, 7 ecosystems including a section of the 13,000 year old Millsteam watershed will protect many at risk species.
We are partnering with nature education agencies to provide a centre for learning that will focus on “Nature as Sanctuary” and include an understanding of the many benefits nature provides in our health and well-being.
