SUMMARY:Love to Sing!!!!!! The Victoria Arion Male Choir Invitation to January 2026 Open Houses
DESCRIPTION:The Victoria Arion Male Choir: Tradition and Community \nAbout the Choir\nThe Victoria Arion Male Choir represents one of the newest additions to the vibrant choral scene in Victoria\, BC. Formed in the summer of 2018\, the choir is the result of the union between two long-standing ensembles: the Arion Male Voice Choir\, established in 1892\, and the Victoria Male Voice Choir\, founded in 1907. Both groups recognized the opportunity to better pursue their vision of creating “a community of men singing for health and joy” by coming together as one. This merger has proven to be a dynamic and successful venture\, yielding positive results both musically and organizationally. \nOur Mission\nThe choir is dedicated to sustaining the rich tradition of male-voice choral music. Each year\, members share their passion for music through a minimum of two public concerts\, as well as performances at seniors’ residences\, the Victoria Remembrance Day ceremony\, and other community events. In support of music education\, the Victoria Arion Male Choir offers a choral scholarship program\, inviting up to four student musicians annually to join and perform with the group. New members are always welcome to experience the camaraderie and joy of choral singing. \nLeadership\nUnder the direction of Musical Director Sean Lampard-Quicke\, who joined the choir in 2020\, and the accompaniment of collaborative pianist Jennifer Mitchell\, a member since 2019\, the choir continues to thrive and evolve. \nMembership and Rehearsals\nThe Victoria Arion Male Choir is actively seeking new singers for its non-audition choir\, beginning in January 2026. Open houses will be held on Mondays\, January 5th\, 12th\, and 19th; rehearsals start at 7:00 p.m. each Monday.  at Cordova Bay United Church\, located at 813 Claremont Ave. The choir performs four-part harmony\, with a diverse repertoire that includes classical\, spiritual\, folk\, and contemporary selections. Additionally\, the choir welcomes applications for its choral scholar program. \nFor those interested in joining as a new member or learning more about the choral scholar program\, please contact Jim Johnson at jimmysj@shaw.ca or visit the choir’s website at www.vamc.ca. \n

SUMMARY:What do Canadians really think about climate change? 2026
DESCRIPTION:Do some Canadians really believe climate change is a hoax? \nIt’s hard to believe\, but in 2025 this was a legitimate question for up to 34 per cent of Canadians. It’s a deeply worrying trend that speaks to shifting national conversations around economic security and national unity. And it’s put Canadians in a double bind: Canadians support cleaner energy at home\, but feel the country’s broader economic future—thanks in part to sustained political and industrial messaging—depends on fossil fuels. \nClimate organizations and communicators are forced to navigate this tricky moment marked by policy reversals\, new pipeline projects\, positive electrification progress\, growing uncertainty about where Canada is heading and a population that is confused about the causes of climate change. \nJoin Re.Climate for the launch of our latest public opinion rollup\, where we’ll explore what recent public opinion research says about how Canadians are thinking about climate change\, energy politics and the government’s climate action right now. \nThe webinar will touch on what communicators need to know about current public thinking: What appears durable\, which narratives are gaining traction\, what is driving public attitudes\, and where strategic opportunities for communications still exist. \nPublic opinion is shifting faster than ever. Our annual public opinion rollup brings together over 100 polls published between April 2025 and April 2026 to give you a clear-eyed portrait of where Canadians are at right now. \nPlease note that this webinar will be conducted in English. For more information\, please contact ghadah@reclimate.ca \nRegister: https://us02web.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_0QzBN2gLRr6HaJhkwSmEjA#/registration

Future Geographies: Art in the Century of Climate Change is the first major exhibition in Canada to examine the intersection of the climate crisis and contemporary art on a global scale. \nFeaturing works from the past 25 years\, this exhibition underscores the urgency and relevance of sustainability and the environment as defining issues of our time. More than 35 works across a range of media—from large-scale video installations to living sculptures—invite viewers to confront pressing questions about our shared future on this planet. \nPresented across multiple floors\, Future Geographies includes a newly commissioned work by Jeffrey Gibson and marks the first time several artists are exhibiting in Vancouver\, including Teresita Fernández\, Josh Kline\, Cannupa Hanska Luger\, Jean Shin and Clarissa Tossin. The exhibition also features major works by BC–based artists such as Brian Jungen\, Gabrielle L’Hirondelle Hill and Lawrence Paul Yuxweluptun Lets’lo:tseltun\, connecting global issues with local specificity. Together\, the works in this exhibition invite dialogue and create space for imagining. \nIn conjunction with the exhibition\, the Vancouver Art Gallery is partnering with the University of British Columbia Climate Action Lab to create unique platforms for cross disciplinary dialogue. After its presentation at the Vancouver Art Gallery\, Future Geographies will travel to the Art Gallery of Ontario. \nFuture Geographies will continue on the Gallery’s 4th Floor with the immersive installation SANCTUARY: The Ancient Forest Experience\, by Dr. T’uy’t’tanat Cease Wyss\, Damien Gillis and Olivier Leroux\, and a presentation of cedar works by local artists\, curated by Dr. Wyss. SUMMARY:Say Yes! A Musical Journey
DESCRIPTION:Inspired by their own adventures in retirement\, i.e. “how to get a life post-career”\, Sara Partridge\, Susan Smitten and Jim Hill get personal – and punchy – as they sing their way through the ups and the downs of aging in our current cultural zeitgeist. \nSay Yes! is the joyful antidote we all need to the current cocktail of global anxiety\, isolation\, and profound uncertainty. It’s a brand new musical production by three veteran performers who\, facing down the often lonely\, surprisingly challenging spaces created by retirement (and post-pandemic angst)\, joined forces in their unstoppable desire to fill the void with music\, humour and connection. \nURL:\nTickets: https://go.evvnt.com/3651770-0?pid=10320 \nDate and Time: On Friday June 12\, 2026 at 19:30 – 20:45 \nVenue details: Langham Court Theatre\, 805 Langham Court\, Victoria\, British Columbia\, V8V 4J3\, Canada \nCategory: Arts | Performing Arts | Theatre \nPrice:\nGeneral Admission: CAD 25.00

SUMMARY:Mend It! Reskilling Workshop with Zero Waste Sooke
DESCRIPTION:Zero Waste Sooke returns to the Sooke Region Museum for the second of this spring’s reskilling workshops. If you’re tired of throwing out clothes as soon as they wear out\, both you and the planet will benefit from this workshop. \nInstructors Paula Johanson\, Emily Trim\, Lynn Moss\, Anne Boquist\, and Gillian Gravenor will be on hand to teach basic mending skills to repair your garments or upcycle them into something new and exciting. Who knows—maybe that old pair of jeans can become a tote bag! On site\, there will be two sewing machines\, electrical outlets\, an ironing board and iron\, pins\, needles\, buttons\, thread\, Velcro\, elastic\, a few pairs of scissors\, old patterns\, and some cloth. All you need to bring are old things that need new life! \nAlso\, if you have a sewing machine that you need to learn how to use\, you can bring it along. The instructors will show you the basics so you can get more mending done at home. \nRegistration for each reskilling workshop costs $15 and is limited to 15 people – so register soon to get your spot! If the registration fee is a barrier to you participating in the reskilling workshops\, contact the Museum (250-642-6351 or info@sookeregionmuseum.ca) and we can reduce or waive the fee. If you are able to pay a bit more for registration\, you will have the option at checkout to donate money to these reskilling workshops to remove financial barriers for others.

SUMMARY:Alfie Zappacosta Live
DESCRIPTION:Two time Juno award and American Music Award winner singer songwriter Alfie Zappacosta delivers a performance like no other. A sophisticated musician with international poise Alfie sings in both English and Italian; studied in jazz and classical guitar. He is a virtuoso composer and seasoned live performer. Alfie’s rich soaring vocals have always been his signature and his songs diverse drawing from pop\, jazz and rock elements.\nWith five decades of unwavering commitment to his craft\, Alfie continues to create music that is both richly complex and profoundly impactful\, shaping songs that linger\, resonate\, and speak directly to the hearts and souls of his audience.\nEvident in his 16th album\, Saved\, released in 2021 on Alma Records\, his music moves effortlessly from soulful and romantic to upbeat and jazzy. Building on that momentum\, 2026 marks another productive chapter\, with his 17th album set for release and a recent performance at the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame.\nAlfie’s vocal dexterity and song writing proficiency was uncovered by a publisher while writing for his first original band “Surrender\, a five-piece group that recorded three albums in the late 1970s into the early 1980s.\nAs a solo artist\, Alfie’s career took off with a string of enduring hits that brought him to international attention\, including “Start Again\,” “Passion\,” “When I Fall in Love Again\,” and “Nothing Can Stand In Your Way\,” co-written with David Foster. In 1988\, he was honoured with JUNO Awards for Album of the Year and Most Promising Artist\, along with an American Music Award for Most Popular Album of the Year. Further cementing his global reach\, Alfie penned and performed “Overload” exclusively for the multi-platinum Dirty Dancing soundtrack.\nThese hit songs were originally written for acoustic and jazz presentations. Writing for radio began to rub against Alfie’s musical integrity and he became frustrated with the demands of music trends. Alfie broke from the stereotype and began to write the lyrics and melodies that were authentically him. \nDate and Time: On Sun\, 14 Jun 2026 18:30 – 20:30 \nVenue details: The Coda\, 751 View Street\, Victoria\, British Columbia\, V8W 1J9\, Canada \nCategory: Live Music \nPrice: General Admission: CAD 40.00
