SUMMARY:New Forest Act Roadshow Event
DESCRIPTION:oin us for a big event!  Elders for Ancient Trees is excited to partner with Broad View United Church to sponsor the Victoria leg of the New Forest Act Roadshow. \nThe June tour includes events in 11 communities (Golden\, Nelson\, Trail\, 100 Mile House\, Campbell River\, Quadra Island\, Courtenay\, Port Alberni\, Honeymoon Bay\, Powell River\, and Victoria). \nThis is a rare opportunity to consider and discuss a forestry regime that can serve forests and local communities. \nLed by Jennifer Houghton\, whose  videos we have featured in earlier Callouts\, the event will be a focused presentation on the New Forest Act—a legislative proposal to replace British Columbia’s current forestry system. \nThis is a critical time to imagine and explore transformative change for precious forests. \nHere are a couple of Jennifer’s videos:You Can’t Export What You Don’t Have: The Reason BC’s Forestry Strategy Is Already Failing and The Forestry Jobs Myth: How Destruction Gets Sold as Work \nJennifer’s down-to-earth and focused style will make some hard hits about what’s actually happening in BC’s forests\, why the current system no longer works\, what critical changes are needed and how the New Forest Act would work in practice. Grounded in three key principles based on a 3-zone approach\, the NFA would: \n\nProtect what must remain intact (old growth\, primary\, untouched by humans)\nRestore what has been degraded\nHarvest where ecosystems can support it\n\nFor full details on the legislative framework: New Forest Act BC Proposal\nWe look forward to a big community engagement on June 22. Join us and bring your friends!
