DESCRIPTION:Unite your love of art and nature during this series of creative mindfulness two-hour workshops! \nThrough expressive arts\, eco-mindfulness practices\, and supportive community\, we will take good care of eco-anxiety/grief and nurture hope in relationship with the earth. \nA little different each time\, the three workshops will feature guided deep relaxation\, gentle movement\, journaling\, collaging\, and singing. \nNo prior experience or training in any art forms is required. Following the workshop\, participants will have the option to spend an additional hour on a self-guided nature walk around the gardens. \nThis workshop is facilitated by Anna Bigland-Pritchard\, a local soprano\, songwriter\, voice teacher\, Expressive Arts Therapy student\, and lover of the earth. Anna is also 1/2 of opera+ ensemble\, Gay4Nature Collective along with Alex Chen\, and co-directs the Queer&Trans Choir Project with Em Postl.

DESCRIPTION:The 2026 Celebrating Gaia series continues with a week-long arts and education exhibition (May 30 to June 7) and concert at 7:30 pm Saturday\, June 6th at Christ Church Cathedral\, 930 Burdett St.\, featuring Joseph Haydn’s The Seasons\, performed by the Victoria Philharmonic Choir\, conducted by Peter Butterfield\, with orchestra and soloists: soprano Jennifer Turner\, tenor Isaiah Bell\, and bass-baritone Stephen Hegedus. \nThe Seasons\, Haydn’s magnificent and rarely-performed secular oratorio was first performed in 1801. It paints musical pictures of the joys and sorrows of human endeavours and of nature itself in the colours of Earth’s natural cycles. SUMMARY:Fired Up! 42nd Annual Ceramics Show and Sale
DESCRIPTION:The annual Fired Up! -Contemporary Works in Clay event is a highlight of the Canadian ceramics art scene. For its 42nd year\, the group explores the concept of “Ebb and Flow”. In art making\, as in life itself\, there is a natural cycle of ebb and flow. Artists who work in clay inherently embrace the transformations and rearrangements of both their medium’s properties and their creative process. Clay fluctuates between liquid\, semi-solid\, dry and then vitreous\, glassy states and potters work to coax desired effects along this ever-changing rhythm. They are patient; their work involves engagement in stages and evolutions\, knowing when to take the lead\, and when to let the materials do their work. The cycle of making is a dynamic\, rhythmic choreography of preparing\, building\, guiding\, combining\, experimenting\, while embracing the importance of timing. It involves a lifetime of developing an intuition for when and how to influence the materiality of the clay through its fluctuations and resulting metamorphosis. We as artists are in a constant state of flux and flow as is the clay we embrace as our partner in creating art. SUMMARY:Fernwood Art Stroll Annual Studio Tour
DESCRIPTION:The 18th Annual Fernwood Art Stroll Studio Tour takes place this year on May 30th and 31st \nAgain this year\, a group of artists and creatives in the greater Fernwood area are opening their studios\, homes and gardens to visitors.  This year there are 20 locations in both Fernwood and Oaklands\, featuring more than two dozen artists showing a wide variety of local art. There will be paintings\, both abstract and realistic\, ceramics\, jewelry\, garden art\, printmaking\, photography and collage. There’s even a roaming storyteller. \nSince its beginning in 2008\, this free\, family-friendly event has welcomed guests who want to see and possibly purchase art of a variety of types. Visitors can enjoy strolling leafy streets\, many with heritage homes and gardens\, and exploring back yard studios and gardens full of art in one of the oldest parts of Victoria.  \nBrochures are being distributed to local businesses and stores around town with a detailed map of the venues and details about the participating artists.  \nSome artists also offer activities for families with children\, and many of the locations are wheelchair accessible.  Visitors can stroll the neighbourhood\, enjoy food and beverages in Fernwood’s cafes and bistros\, and view or purchase a wide variety of art at reasonable prices. \nAs an added bonus this year\, the Fernwood Art Stroll is collaborating with the Fernwood Cat Walk\, who’s event is on Saturday\, May 30th. DESCRIPTION:Sing your heart out with the Gay4Choir Pride Festival Chorus! Join our sonic queer community for 5 weekly rehearsals culminating in a joyful performance at the Victoria Pride Festival on July 12th. \nWhat to expect: \n\n5 weekly rehearsals starting Monday June 1st at 6:30-8:30pm\nPLUS the amazing opportunity to perform at the Victoria Pride Festival on July 12th\nJoyful queer community raising our voices together in harmony – maybe make a friend!\nA welcoming and empowering choral environment. This choir is about intergenerational queer connection\, joy\, and sonic magic! We will be working toward a polished and satisfying performance\, but there is no audition; We encourage anyone who loves to sing and is able to commit to the rehearsals to sign up. No prior choir experience necessary. Rehearsals are designed to be accessible for less experienced singers\, while fun and satisfying for more experienced singers too. This is community\, baby!\nChoir members will have access to all the sheet music and voice part recordings early and are encouraged to get familiar with the songs before rehearsals start.\nWhat we’ll be singing: Beginning to Feel the Years by Brandi Carlisle\, Make Me Feel by Janelle Monae\, Silk Chiffon by MUNA\, Somewhere Over the Rainbow\, and maybe more!\n\n* Space is limited\, so please register early.
