SUMMARY:GOING OFFLINE: A mindfulness based digital detox & social fitness reset
DESCRIPTION:Do you ever feel like your brain has been hacked by your phone?  \nGoing Offline is a mindfulness based digital detox and social fitness course designed to help you reclaim time and attention from devices and focus on building connection in the real world. \nThe super computer in our pocket has become an essential tool for communicating and navigating modern life. However\, constant connectivity also comes at a high cost to our focus\, mental health and ability to spark and build close relationships. How we see ourselves and the phenomenal world is increasingly shaped by powerful\, immersive technologies designed to be addictive and hack our attention and innate drive for intimacy and community. \nIn this 4 week course we will introduce a mindfulness based approach to reclaiming attention and agency from screens and explore social fitness habits for building relationships and community offline. \nTopics covered  \nWeek 1: Mindfulness in the digital age \nThe first session introduces Going Offline and how mindfulness can help reset our relationship with technology and reconnect with basic goodness and the living world \nWeek 2: Self compassion and breaking free of the digital samsara \nThrough self compassion we develop a foundation of unconditional friendliness towards oneself while working with habitual patterns online and off. \nWeek 3: Facing boredom\, FOMO and loneliness \nMost people spend 7 or more hours a day behind a screen\, going offline can feel like going through the fire. Instead of reaching for a device for a hit of cheap dopamine we can open to connection already present in our world. \nWeek 4:  Social fitness and creating a better party \nLike physical fitness\, improving social fitness requires being active. Regardless of  your relational goals\, intimacy begins with vulnerability and making small bids for connection.      \nThe class is open to all. Register at Victoria Shambhala Centrehttps://victoria.shambhala.org/program-details/?id=816574 \n*Please note we will be discussing personal topics including loneliness and addiction\, which may be triggering for some people. This intention of this class is educational and for personal growth\, rather than therapy. \nProgram fee \nRegular program fee $80 \nPatron price 96$ \nReduced price $64 \nLow income Pay what you can \nAbout Silas Rosenblatt \nSilas has been practicing meditation in the Buddhist tradition for over 30 year and is a director of Shambhala training\, Having spent decades in the not for profit sector and public health as a registered acupuncturist and running an Acu-detox clinic\, Silas developed a strong interest in the psycho-social dimensions of health and the power of mindfulness for healing. His current work focuses on leadership and social fitness coaching and podcasting about conscious relationships in the digital age. \nMore information: awakeinrelationship.com

SUMMARY:OSTARA PROJECT: Roots & Wings Concert
DESCRIPTION:IMMERSIVE EXPERIENCE: A WEEKLONG RESIDENCY INCLUDING A FILM SCREENING AND CONCERT \nOnly five percent of jazz instrumentalists are women. SUMMARY:Ensemble Caprice (CANADA)
DESCRIPTION:Back by popular demand\, Ensemble Caprice\, under the direction of dynamic Artistic Director Matthias Maute\, returns to Victoria. \nA whirlwind of fiery passion and dazzling virtuosity\, Vivaldi on Fire sets the stage ablaze with music by Antonio Vivaldi and vibrant\, anonymous works from the Eastern European Uhrovska zbierka collection (1730). \nEnsemble Caprice’s signature energy brings to life Vivaldi’s double recorder concerto RV 535 and the dramatic motet In furore iustissimae irae\, showcasing both instrumental brilliance and vocal intensity. The beloved La Follia sonata radiates wild invention\, while rarely heard cantatas offer moments of intimacy and elegance. Interwoven throughout the program\, spirited dances and preludes from the Uhrovska zbierka evoke a nomadic soundscape-raw\, rhythmic\, and irresistible. This unique dialogue between Baroque Italy and the folk traditions of Eastern Europe invites listeners into a musical journey of contrasts and connections\, where refinement meets rustic fire. \nURLs:\nTickets: https://go.evvnt.com/3258599-0?pid=10320\nWebsite: https://go.evvnt.com/3258599-3?pid=10320 \nDate and Time: Sat\, 14 Mar 2026 19:30 – Sat\, 14 Mar 2026 21:00 \nVenue details: First Church of Christ\, Scientist Victoria\, 1205 Pandora Avenue\, Victoria\, British Columbia\, V8V 3R3\, Canada \nCategory: Arts | Performing Arts | Music \nPrices:\nGeneral Admission: CAD 35.00\,\nUnder 30: CAD 20.00\,\nYouth/Student: CAD 5.00 \nArtist: Ensemble Caprice

SUMMARY:The Story Collection: Wildlife Photographer of the Year
DESCRIPTION:Join us for the next installment of The Story Collection\, where community storytellers gather to share personal narratives inspired by the galleries at the Royal BC Museum. Set against the stunning backdrop of the Wildlife Photographer of the Year exhibition\, this evening explores the theme “What the Wild Taught Me\,” inviting storytellers to reflect on the lessons\, revelations\, and transformations that have emerged from their encounters with nature. Whether it’s a moment of quiet observation\, an unexpected adventure\, or a profound shift in perspective\, each story will illuminate the ways wilderness shapes who we are. \nWhile taking in the exhibition’s breathtaking images of our planet’s diverse ecosystems and creatures\, our storytellers will bring their own experiences to life\, creating an intimate dialogue between visual artistry and spoken word. This is storytelling at its most authentic: heartfelt\, at times hilarious\, and deeply human. Come ready to listen\, connect\, and perhaps see both the exhibition and your own relationship with the natural world through fresh eyes. \nURLs:\nTickets: https://go.evvnt.com/3509099-0?pid=10320\nWebsite: https://go.evvnt.com/3509099-2?pid=10320 \nDate and Time: On Wednesday March 11\, 2026 at 19:00 – 21:00 \nVenue details: Royal BC Museum\, 675 Belleville Street\, Victoria\, British Columbia\, V8W 9W2\, Canada \nCategory: Community \nPrice:\nGeneral Admission: CAD 20.00

SUMMARY:Restoration of Our Past and Future: Towards a Way of Life (Free talk)
DESCRIPTION:Join Dr. Richard Heba to learn how we can all participate in the respectful rebalancing of global systems and human communities though big and small actions. \nThirty years ago\, Continuing Studies at UVic identified a training gap in the developing field of Restoration. Well ahead of others\, a unique program of holistic restoration blending science\, social sciences\, and the humanities emerged. From politics to plant ecology\, we invited all to participate whatever their background. We included practical experience in the field and in the human community. \nToday\, global systems of water (hydrosphere)\, air (atmosphere)\, life (biosphere) and land (geosphere) are widely out of balance as a fifth system humanity (sociosphere) robs energy and resources. Pushing aside the laws of nature\, our present system alters global climates and leads to the catastrophic depletion of the diversity of life. \nHolistic Restoration presents a way of life\, to bring humanity into equilibrium with the earth!
