SUMMARY:Darn It! Reskilling Workshop with Zero Waste Sooke
DESCRIPTION:Tired of holey socks and sweaters? Looking for an opportunity to increase your skills\, help the planet\, and give new life to your old clothes? \nTextile and clothing waste is a serious and increasing problem. Around the world\, people are buying more\, throwing out more\, and repairing less. Because of this alarming trend\, the amount of clothing waste in landfills continues to rise. \nLuckily\, you can learn how to help out. On 23 May\, the Sooke Region Museum is hosting Darn It!\, a collaboration with Zero Waste Sooke. A team of darning experts\, including Paula Johanson\, Anne Boquist\, Gillian Gravenor\, and Emily Trim\, will teach you how to darn holes in your damaged clothing. No experience is necessary—all you need to bring is the item to be darned\, some yarn that’s compatible with it in width and type\, a darning needle and/or crochet hook\, and a darning mushroom\, darning egg\, incandescent lightbulb\, or small glass jar. (Wooden darning eggs and mushrooms can be purchased for this workshop as an option.) \nThis is the first of two “reskilling” workshops presented by the Sooke Region Museum and Zero Waste Sooke. These workshops aim to teach historically rooted skills and show their continued importance in building an environmentally sustainable present. They fuse the two host organizations’ respective focuses: the Museum is committed to inspiring an appreciation of our past and its relevance to our present and future\, while Zero Waste Sooke is dedicated to a clean(er)\, green(er)\, region that reduces its ecological footprint in common sense and practical ways. \nAt Darn It!\, you’ll learn a fun and useful skill passed down through generations\, all while restoring your garments and keeping them out of the landfill. \nRegistration for each reskilling workshop costs $15 and is limited to 15 people – so register soon to get your spot! If the registration fee is a barrier to you participating in the reskilling workshops\, contact the Museum (250-642-6351 or info@sookeregionmuseum.ca) and we can reduce or waive the fee. If you are able to pay a bit more for registration\, you will have the option at checkout to donate money to these reskilling workshops to remove financial barriers for others.

SUMMARY:Presenting the Scientific Documentary\, CLIMATE TRAILS\, on Weather Geo-engineering & Its Hazards
DESCRIPTION:Humans have been trying to control the weather for time immemorial. Since the 1930’s\, military records show this is actually being done\, by spraying various salts\, ice and chemicals into the sky. For decades these operations have become more and more covert. However\, in recent years our skies have been so dramatically altered by what have been called Chem Trails\, and strange weather such as Heat Domes and Rain Rivers\, that people around the world have begun to question\, “What is going on?” The most recently released documentary CLIMATE TRAILS reveals that what is now labeled Stratospheric Arial Spraying is poisoning our Air\, Water and Soil with multiple chemicals that are affecting our health. \nSlowly\, more and more countries are attempting to stop these geo-engineering activities\, which now have can manipulate and move entire weather systems\, including hurricanes and tornado’s and are wreaking havoc on our Planet. \nThe Documentary follows a journey through altered skies\, personal stories\, and communities questioning what lingers in the atmosphere above them. \nThe film will be followed by discussion\, including a range of suggestions for detoxing our bodies from the inhaled poisons. \nCome and join us. \nWebsite: https://evvnt.com/events/?_ev_id=3635656 \nDate and Time: On Sun\, 24 May 2026 18:30 – Sun\, 24 May 2026 20:30 \nVenue Details: Church of Truth – Community of Conscious Living\, 111 Superior Street\, Victoria\, British Columbia\, V8V 1T2\, Canada \nCategory: Community | Fundraisers | Charities \nPrice:\nGeneral admission: CAD 10.00

SUMMARY:Fired Up! 42nd Annual Ceramics Show and Sale
DESCRIPTION:The annual Fired Up! -Contemporary Works in Clay event is a highlight of the Canadian ceramics art scene. For its 42nd year\, the group explores the concept of “Ebb and Flow”. In art making\, as in life itself\, there is a natural cycle of ebb and flow. Artists who work in clay inherently embrace the transformations and rearrangements of both their medium’s properties and their creative process. Clay fluctuates between liquid\, semi-solid\, dry and then vitreous\, glassy states and potters work to coax desired effects along this ever-changing rhythm. They are patient; their work involves engagement in stages and evolutions\, knowing when to take the lead\, and when to let the materials do their work. The cycle of making is a dynamic\, rhythmic choreography of preparing\, building\, guiding\, combining\, experimenting\, while embracing the importance of timing. It involves a lifetime of developing an intuition for when and how to influence the materiality of the clay through its fluctuations and resulting metamorphosis. We as artists are in a constant state of flux and flow as is the clay we embrace as our partner in creating art. Becoming a ceramic artist is a life-long\, non-linear process and our group is a working example of the ebb and flow of artistic development across time as we showcase the work of emerging artists to that of renowned masters in our field. \nURL:\nWebsite: https://go.evvnt.com/3597038-0?pid=10320 \nDate and Time: On Sat\, 30 May 2026 10:00 – Sun\, 31 May 2026 17:00 \nVenue details: Metchosin Community Hall\, 4401 William Head Road\, Victoria\, British Columbia\, V9C 3Z3\, Canada \nCategory: Arts

SUMMARY:Fernwood Art Stroll Annual Studio Tour
DESCRIPTION:The 18th Annual Fernwood Art Stroll Studio Tour takes place this year on May 30th and 31st \nAgain this year\, a group of artists and creatives in the greater Fernwood area are opening their studios\, homes and gardens to visitors.  This year there are 20 locations in both Fernwood and Oaklands\, featuring more than two dozen artists showing a wide variety of local art. There will be paintings\, both abstract and realistic\, ceramics\, jewelry\, garden art\, printmaking\, photography and collage. There’s even a roaming storyteller. \nSince its beginning in 2008\, this free\, family-friendly event has welcomed guests who want to see and possibly purchase art of a variety of types. Visitors can enjoy strolling leafy streets\, many with heritage homes and gardens\, and exploring back yard studios and gardens full of art in one of the oldest parts of Victoria.  \nBrochures are being distributed to local businesses and stores around town with a detailed map of the venues and details about the participating artists.  \nSome artists also offer activities for families with children\, and many of the locations are wheelchair accessible.  Visitors can stroll the neighbourhood\, enjoy food and beverages in Fernwood’s cafes and bistros\, and view or purchase a wide variety of art at reasonable prices. \nAs an added bonus this year\, the Fernwood Art Stroll is collaborating with the Fernwood Cat Walk\, who’s event is on Saturday\, May 30th. Some of the Art Stroll participants are showing their cats as well was their art. \n  \nAn online map and information about participants in the 2025 Fernwood Art Stroll can be downloaded at www.fernwoodartstroll.ca \nFor further information\, contact  \n John Hillian 250-590-1277 jhillian@shaw.ca
