She has always felt connected to forests\, oceans\, and the land\, which became grounding spaces in her life and provided a safe blanket and place to breathe during times of uncertainty. \nThis connection later influenced Jenna’s art practice. She often works with figurative and landscape subjects through oil painting\, watercolour\, and wood carvings. Her art practice heavily includes plywood\, with the material acting as colonized and commercialized pieces of land that are being returned to the body. DESCRIPTION:As the environmental crisis accelerates\, artists around the world are responding with urgency\, insight and vision. Future Geographies: Art in the Century of Climate Change is the first major exhibition in Canada to examine the intersection of the climate crisis and contemporary art on a global scale. \nFeaturing works from the past 25 years\, this exhibition underscores the urgency and relevance of sustainability and the environment as defining issues of our time. More than 35 works across a range of media—from large-scale video installations to living sculptures—invite viewers to confront pressing questions about our shared future on this planet. \nPresented across multiple floors\, Future Geographies includes a newly commissioned work by Jeffrey Gibson and marks the first time several artists are exhibiting in Vancouver\, including Teresita Fernández\, Josh Kline\, Cannupa Hanska Luger\, Jean Shin and Clarissa Tossin. The exhibition also features major works by BC–based artists such as Brian Jungen\, Gabrielle L’Hirondelle Hill and Lawrence Paul Yuxweluptun Lets’lo:tseltun\, connecting global issues with local specificity. Together\, the works in this exhibition invite dialogue and create space for imagining. \nIn conjunction with the exhibition\, the Vancouver Art Gallery is partnering with the University of British Columbia Climate Action Lab to create unique platforms for cross disciplinary dialogue. DESCRIPTION:Join us September 14th\, 2026 at 6:00 PM (Pacific Time) at 312 Main Street\, Vancouver for a panel discussion\, letter writing\, and community building event.\nThe Salish Sea and Fraser River Estuary are facing unprecedented threats. Over the past year\, sweeping legislative changes mean major projects can now be fast-tracked and approved with minimal environmental oversight or Indigenous consultation. \nToday\, the federal government intends to make a new pipeline one of those projects\, right on the fragile shores of the Fraser River Estuary. A new West Coast Pipeline would destroy vital Chinook salmon habitat\, pollute the Salish Sea with underwater noise\, increase the likelihood of a catastrophic oil spill\, and threaten the long-term health of coastal communities that depend on this ecosystem. It could spell extinction for the Southern Resident killer whales\, too. \nThe Major Projects Office is looking for feedback on whether or not the new West Coast Pipeline should be designated a project of national interest (PONI). If it receives this designation\, the pipeline will proceed to construction before it receives any impact assessment. We have until September 18th to submit our feedback\, which is why we want to gather as community members to learn\, listen\, take action\, and build hope\, together. \nAt this event\, you can expect to learn from a panel of experts\, as they discuss topics about the Salish Sea\, endangered species\, Indigenous rights\, building community resilience\, and major projects like Roberts Bank Terminal 2 and the new proposed pipeline. \nWe’ll provide letters for you to write to the Major Projects Office and members of the federal government that we’ll expedite to Ottawa before the feedback submission deadline. \nThere will be time for snacks\, chatting with organizations about how you can get involved\, and a giveaway for books\, orca pins\, and orca cards at the very end! \nPanelists:\nChief Jim Hornbrook from Hwlitsum First Nation\, Eden Luymes from CPAWS-BC and Candela Cerpa from Stand.earth. \nIt’s a great chance to learn\, connect\, and chat with others who care about our planet. DESCRIPTION:The Victoria Arion Male Choir: Tradition and Community \nAbout the Choir\nThe Victoria Arion Male Choir represents one of the newest additions to the vibrant choral scene in Victoria\, BC. Formed in the summer of 2018\, the choir is the result of the union between two long-standing ensembles: the Arion Male Voice Choir\, established in 1892\, and the Victoria Male Voice Choir\, founded in 1907. Both groups recognized the opportunity to better pursue their vision of creating “a community of men singing for health and joy” by coming together as one. This merger has proven to be a dynamic and successful venture\, yielding positive results both musically and organizationally. \nOur Mission\nThe choir is dedicated to sustaining the rich tradition of male-voice choral music. Each year\, members share their passion for music through a minimum of two public concerts\, as well as performances at seniors’ residences\, the Victoria Remembrance Day ceremony\, and other community events. In support of music education\, the Victoria Arion Male Choir offers a choral scholarship program\, inviting up to four student musicians annually to join and perform with the group. They aim to take power away from the billionaire class and win solutions to the climate crisis that secure good jobs and address affordability. This summer they are pushing for an excess profits tax on oil and gas companies. \nCommie Bop is now offered through South Island Worker’s Cultural Education League! Check out our Choir\, Outdoor Club\, Worker’s Cafe\, Book Club\, and Soccer Team. \nAbout Commie Bop: A Commie Bop is freedom in motion: a song\, a poem\, a spell\, a skit\, a dance against the grind of colonial capitalism. It’s where creativity smashes exploitation\, where solidarity squeezes alienation\, and where we (yes\, we\, the ridiculous and unruly) celebrate our collective fire. This is a space to howl anti-capitalist anthems\, share art that bites back\, and honour past and future generations. Leftist debates? Vital. But tonight we revel in the kaleidoscope of our movement\, checking our purity test kits at the door with our hearts open to each other’s stories. We have license to be silly little peasants! Think Carnival\, mocking lords and kings… \nOpen Mic Sets: Your offering does NOT need to involve a complex analysis – our day-to-day experiences put us into the crosshairs of capitalism’s contradictions.
