DESCRIPTION:Registration is open for summer arts workshops at Metchosin International Summer School of the Arts at Pearson College! This years course offerings include many workshops in ceramics\, fibre arts\, drawing\, painting\, sculpture\, writing\, printing and design\, with students and faculty travelling form around the world to attend\, and many returning alumni looking forward to seeing their MISSA community. Maybe you know someone who would be intersted in attending? missa.ca/workshops \n  \nMetchosin International Summer School of the Arts – ‘MISSA’ was founded in 1984 at Pearson College by 5 local artists\, Robin Hopper (ceramics)\, Carole Sabiston (fibre arts)\, Cheryl Samuel (weaving)\, Flemming Jorgensen (painting)\, and Rona Murray (writing).  In the first year’s program there were 5 classes and 53 students. Since that time our program has flourished\, and this year we anticipate over 300 students. There are accommodations on campus\, including breakfast and dinner\, and the workshop fees include lunch. Pearson College is an ideal location for our creative community to gather\, learn and enjoy meeting new old friends. Often the two intertwine in our speech and thought: we talk about a thirst for beauty\, and the way music flows. In this program\, Sarah explores music’s extraordinary ability to harness both the beautiful rhythms of waves and rainfall\, as well as the sense of calm and depth that can result from water’s stillness. \nOriginally from Vancouver Island\, Sarah enjoys an international career as a soloist and chamber musician. She is a visionary who places innovation and collaboration at the forefront of her performances. The imagery of Victoria\, BC photographer Frances Litman\, will accompany a piece by Amy Beach\, the first successful American female composer of large-scale “art music.” \nA short conversation with Sarah Hagen and Brad Proctor\, Executive Director of the Gorge Waterway Action Society\, will follow the performance. DESCRIPTION:Come and have fun helping to remove ivy\, blackberry and a few other non-native invasive plants that are smothering the park. Doing so will allow the native plants to re-establish and thrive\, restoring the natural ecosystem. \nThis is a volunteer effort promoted by Esquimalt Parks and Recreation under their Branch Out initiative. \nSaxe Point Park is at the bottom of Fraser Street in Esquimalt.
