SUMMARY:BegonY'as on Skampede Strange Hour Stage
DESCRIPTION: 🎭 BegonY’as performs Sunday!\nCome help name and banish oppressors!!\n1:55 PM sharp\, Regatta Point Park (Skampede — Strange Hour stage)\n\nKid-friendly! Bring them along! 🌸\nBegonY’as is an audience-participation performance\, presenting Begonia — a persona\, part garden witch\, part flowering begonia — created and embodied by interdisciplinary artist Draa. \nBegonY’as embodies the plant world’s quiet resilience and its fierce\, rooted resistance to what threatens it — drawing a direct line between tending a garden and tending a just world. \nThrough dreaming ourselves garden creatures\, to naming oppressors in the Oppressor Alphabet\, a living ritual is built anew with each performance as BegonY’as invites you – the audience – to name and collectively banish the forces that choke healthy growth — corporate greed\, colonialism\, ecological neglect — the same way a gardener names pests and weeds so their garden can flourish. Audiences don’t just watch; they participate\, becoming part of the ecosystem being cultivated on stage — one where care for the land and care for each other are the same practice. \nTip: BegonY’as is performance #9 — just 10 minutes long\, in a lineup of 20 acts running one right after the other! So plan to arrive early and stay late\, and catch a few of these diverse acts along the way. \nTip: if you’re also doing Pride\, catch the start of the parade at Pandora\, then hop on your bike and head over — the Regatta Point stage events start at 12 noon\, so there’s time to catch it all. A bicycle is definitely the way to travel on Pride Sunday!

SUMMARY:Commie Bop Open Mic
DESCRIPTION:About the Event\n\n\nA Commie Bop is an expression of freedom\, verve\, and solidarity. Share yours with us and let’s bask in the liberating imagination of our city! \n\n\nSign Up Opens at 6:30 before the event . No advanced online sign up for July 2026 event. \nDoors: 6pm\, Event: 7pm – 10pm\nCo hosts: TBA and Wes Carroll \nAll proceeds go to Common Horizon\, Victoria chapter\, * who are building a mass movement of everyday people. They aim to take power away from the billionaire class and win solutions to the climate crisis that secure good jobs and address affordability. This summer they are pushing for an excess profits tax on oil and gas companies. \nCommie Bop is now offered through South Island Worker’s Cultural Education League! Check out our Choir\, Outdoor Club\, Worker’s Cafe\, Book Club\, and Soccer Team. \nAbout Commie Bop: A Commie Bop is freedom in motion: a song\, a poem\, a spell\, a skit\, a dance against the grind of colonial capitalism. It’s where creativity smashes exploitation\, where solidarity squeezes alienation\, and where we (yes\, we\, the ridiculous and unruly) celebrate our collective fire. This is a space to howl anti-capitalist anthems\, share art that bites back\, and honour past and future generations. Leftist debates? Vital. But tonight we revel in the kaleidoscope of our movement\, checking our purity test kits at the door with our hearts open to each other’s stories. We have license to be silly little peasants! Think Carnival\, mocking lords and kings… \nOpen Mic Sets: Your offering does NOT need to involve a complex analysis – our day-to-day experiences put us into the crosshairs of capitalism’s contradictions. Sets should be 10 minutes or less. Please explain why you chose or wrote what you’re sharing. Performers are encouraged to make space for audience participation – teach us your chorus\, wrangle us into your skit\, add call and response\, or bring up Alice to play the tambourine or the triangle. \nAll acts should\, in their own unique way\, call for an end to exploitation and discrimination. This space celebrates dignity. Check lyrics for oppressive and triggering language (racist\, sexist\, ableist\, SWERFS\, TERFS\, etc.). We fight systems\, not each other. Please respect the venue. \n*Every month a different not-for-profit co-hosts and benefits from funds raised. Follow us on Instagram for monthly update.

SUMMARY:Robin Hood: Rooted in Harmony With Nature
DESCRIPTION:Pacific Opera Victoria’s Youth Summer Performance Program presents Robin Hood\, a fully staged\, spirited 55-minute opera by Ben Moore and Kelley Rourke.Featuring talented\, local performers ages 8–18\, alongside professional artists\, this lively retelling of the classic legend is filled with adventure\, humour\, music\, and heart: a fun and memorable experience for audiences of all ages. \nIn a land savaged by the corrupt Sheriff of Notthingham\, Robin Hood flees to Sherwood Forest and vows to defend its ancient trees\, wildlife\, and the people who rely on them. With a band of common folk\, he builds a community rooted in harmony with nature—much to the outrage of the Sheriff and his hapless deputies. Yet Robin\, a reluctant hero\, struggles with the weight of leadership: can he protect the forest without becoming what he opposes? \nIn addition to the Robin Hood performances\, audiences can also enjoy Trees: Celebrating Gaia\, a unique\, 3-dimensional fine art installation (in the lower lobby area)\, featuring the premiere of more than 30 black & white and colour images by award-winning Victoria\, BC photographers Blair Ketcheson and Frances Litman. There will also be presentation tables celebrating trees and ecological diversity by the free community event and resource hub Creatively United for the Planet\, in partnership with Climate and the Arts\, and the Habitat Acquisition Trust (HAT). \nPresented as part of the Celebrating Gaia Series with thanks to the Gail O’Riordan Climate and the Arts Legacy Fund c/o the Victoria Foundation.
