SUMMARY:Bound by Nature Eco-Printing Workshop with Nora Ready
DESCRIPTION:On 6 June\, the Sooke Region Museum invites you to Bound by Nature\, an eco-printing workshop with fibre artist Nora Ready. This workshop is a great opportunity to learn about local plants\, create a wonderful souvenir\, and appreciate the beauty of spring. \nNora Ready is an experienced art facilitator and active fibre artist with membership in the Vancouver Island Surface Design Association and the Canadian Fibre Arts Network. All supplies are provided\, and no experience is necessary. At the workshop\, you will create a booklet that reflects the area’s natural beauty. These booklets will be truly unique\, and you’ll have an unforgettable piece of the place and the season to take with you! \nRegistration costs $75 and is limited to 20 people.

SUMMARY:Saltwater Tongues
DESCRIPTION:As part of our exciting lineup of Ocean Week events\, we’re thrilled to invite you to our Saltwater Tongues event series\, a creative community gathering where poetry meets environmental justice. Last year\, we heard stunning poems about marine mammals\, bull kelp\, and the deep pull of the ocean\, along with many other profound stories. \nJoin us Saturday\, June 6th\, at Caffe Fantastico (Quadra Village) for an evening that welcomes everyone to listen\, share\, and speak into being more just and resilient futures. \nRSVP here! \nThis year\, we want to hone in on how climate intersects with the Salish Sea and what it means to live on the shores in times of change.\nWe’re also co-hosting this event with the Gorge Waterway Action Society\, the BC Climate Emergency Campaign\, and the University of Victoria Sustainability Project. \nWe think its important to work together to make change in the communities we live in\, and by bringing together all of these rad orgs\, we make space for pathways to action that everyone can participate in. We’ll have a Community Action table that people can engage with\, and we’ll have lots of opportunity to chat about poetry\, change-making\, and how we can build community in times of precarity. \nImportantly\, we want this to be a fun and accessible space. Bring your own words\, the words of others\, or any form of creative expression that moves you. Whether you’re sharing or simply soaking it in\, this night is about connecting through art\, transformation\, and community care. It will provide a space to reflect on how resilience moves through both bodies and water.

SUMMARY:Printmaking in the Orchard
DESCRIPTION:Enjoy a beautiful afternoon in the Orchard learning to make your own stamps and decorating a tote bag with the designs you create \n\n\n\n\nWorkshop Description\nCome out and enjoy a morning of art in the Orchard! This workshop will walk you through all the steps of how to design\, carve and use linocut stamps\, as well as how to use materials from some of the wonderful species around the orchard to make collagraph prints. No previous art skills required! All participants will get the chance to design and create their own stamp based on inspiration from the Orchard\, and then use it in combination with collagraph techniques to print a beautiful tote bag to take home. \nBe sure to come dressed for the elements as this workshop will be held outdoors. \nGetting here\nAs there is limited parking available at the orchard\, please bike\, walk\, bus or carpool if possible. We are located right on the galloping goose\, and you are welcome to bring bikes into the orchard to lock them up safely. \nIf you are driving\, there are 8 parking spots located at the end of stancil lane\, 1 of which will be reserved as accessible for the duration of the workshop. Please be mindful of our neighbours and do not park in the large driveway on the south side of the street. Additional parking can be found along the street on High St and Eaton Ave. \nAbout the Instructor\nRiver (they/them) works for Lifecycles Project as the Welland Orchard Coordinator\, as well as running their own landscaping business\, Nightingale Gardens. They are passionate about increasing the resilience of urban and suburban landscapes through utilising plants native to these territories\, increasing food security through integrating edible perennials and fruit trees into the landscape\, and helping to increase connections to land through making gardening more possible and accessible. \nHow to Register for this Event\nThis workshop is in person only. Please dress appropriately for all types of weather\, as the workshop will be hosted outside in the orchard. \nThis workshop is available on a sliding scale basis. Please pay in alignment with your financial privilege to help us continue to offer tickets in this way\, and support those in your community with less financial privilege to attend our workshops. There are also a limited number of by donation tickets available for this workshop\, these tickets are prioritized for folks who are low income and would otherwise be unable to attend. If the ticket cost is a barrier for you\, please utilize these tickets. \nLifeCycles Project Society is always working to learn more about\, and breakdown\, barriers that may exist in accessing our programming. We understand providing sliding scale tickets is by no means an exhaustive look at systems of oppression that exist for people. We welcome your ideas and feedback as we work to continue learning. \nPlease contact us if you are no longer able to attend but hold a ticket so we can make your space available to someone else and work to process your refund. \nYou can also register for the event by calling our office at 250 383-5800 or via email by contacting welland@lifecyclesproject.ca \nAccessibility\nAccess from the parking area off Stancil Lane is through a latching unlocked gate. There is a gravel/dirt path sloping downward from the gate that leads to a wide flat grassy area with picnic table seating. If you are coming from the Galloping Goose entrance\, which also has a latching unlocked gate\, you will find a gravel/dirt path that slopes upward to the wide flat seating area. The steepness of the path varies throughout the Orchard and is steepest at the top of the Orchard closer to the Stancil Lane entrance\, and at the bottom between the Galloping Goose trail and the Orchard entrance. The pathway from the Galloping Goose to the entrance to the Orchard has several sharp turns. \nThe Orchard has a single-stall gender-neutral composting toilet facility on site with ramp access and transfer bars which will be open during the workshop. The composting toilet is located below the flat area and toward the Galloping Goose entrance. Hand sanitizer is available inside the toilet. \nThe workshop will be held outside rain or shine\, please dress appropriately for the weather. The seating provided is picnic benches. Please feel free to bring a cushion or your own folding chair\, a limited number of cushions are available at the orchard. \nThere is access to potable water on site. Please bring your own water bottle. \nPhoto Credit: Que Banh

SUMMARY:Mend It! Reskilling Workshop with Zero Waste Sooke
DESCRIPTION:Zero Waste Sooke returns to the Sooke Region Museum for the second of this spring’s reskilling workshops. If you’re tired of throwing out clothes as soon as they wear out\, both you and the planet will benefit from this workshop. \nInstructors Paula Johanson\, Emily Trim\, Lynn Moss\, Anne Boquist\, and Gillian Gravenor will be on hand to teach basic mending skills to repair your garments or upcycle them into something new and exciting. Who knows—maybe that old pair of jeans can become a tote bag! On site\, there will be two sewing machines\, electrical outlets\, an ironing board and iron\, pins\, needles\, buttons\, thread\, Velcro\, elastic\, a few pairs of scissors\, old patterns\, and some cloth. All you need to bring are old things that need new life! \nAlso\, if you have a sewing machine that you need to learn how to use\, you can bring it along. The instructors will show you the basics so you can get more mending done at home. \nRegistration for each reskilling workshop costs $15 and is limited to 15 people – so register soon to get your spot! If the registration fee is a barrier to you participating in the reskilling workshops\, contact the Museum (250-642-6351 or info@sookeregionmuseum.ca) and we can reduce or waive the fee. If you are able to pay a bit more for registration\, you will have the option at checkout to donate money to these reskilling workshops to remove financial barriers for others.

SUMMARY:Alfie Zappacosta Live
DESCRIPTION:Two time Juno award and American Music Award winner singer songwriter Alfie Zappacosta delivers a performance like no other. A sophisticated musician with international poise Alfie sings in both English and Italian; studied in jazz and classical guitar. He is a virtuoso composer and seasoned live performer. Alfie’s rich soaring vocals have always been his signature and his songs diverse drawing from pop\, jazz and rock elements.\nWith five decades of unwavering commitment to his craft\, Alfie continues to create music that is both richly complex and profoundly impactful\, shaping songs that linger\, resonate\, and speak directly to the hearts and souls of his audience.\nEvident in his 16th album\, Saved\, released in 2021 on Alma Records\, his music moves effortlessly from soulful and romantic to upbeat and jazzy. Building on that momentum\, 2026 marks another productive chapter\, with his 17th album set for release and a recent performance at the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame.\nAlfie’s vocal dexterity and song writing proficiency was uncovered by a publisher while writing for his first original band “Surrender\, a five-piece group that recorded three albums in the late 1970s into the early 1980s.\nAs a solo artist\, Alfie’s career took off with a string of enduring hits that brought him to international attention\, including “Start Again\,” “Passion\,” “When I Fall in Love Again\,” and “Nothing Can Stand In Your Way\,” co-written with David Foster. In 1988\, he was honoured with JUNO Awards for Album of the Year and Most Promising Artist\, along with an American Music Award for Most Popular Album of the Year. Further cementing his global reach\, Alfie penned and performed “Overload” exclusively for the multi-platinum Dirty Dancing soundtrack.\nThese hit songs were originally written for acoustic and jazz presentations. Writing for radio began to rub against Alfie’s musical integrity and he became frustrated with the demands of music trends. Alfie broke from the stereotype and began to write the lyrics and melodies that were authentically him. \nDate and Time: On Sun\, 14 Jun 2026 18:30 – 20:30 \nVenue details: The Coda\, 751 View Street\, Victoria\, British Columbia\, V8W 1J9\, Canada \nCategory: Live Music \nPrice: General Admission: CAD 40.00
