SUMMARY:Concerto di Margherita Il Gioco della cieca (Blind Man’s Bluff) (ITALY)
DESCRIPTION:Taking as an inspiration the vocal and instrumental works of late 16th and early 17th century Italian composers such as deWert\, Caccini\, Kapsberger and d’India\, the ensemble Concerto di Margherita presents a fable of an archetypal Lover\, caught\, like Amaryllis in Guarini’s play\, in a cruel game of Blind Man’s Bluff. Playing with sight and visibility throughout the concert\, the musicians\, who all sing and accompany themselves on their instrument\, take the audience with them on the Lover’s path: born in Arcadian innocence\, blinded and deluded by love\, lost and disoriented in darkness and finding solace in obscurity.

SUMMARY:Hands Off Old Growth! - Rally Oct. 4th
DESCRIPTION:Old growth forests continue to be logged at a breathtaking rate. Our group\, Elders for Ancient Trees\, and the other environmental organizations involved in the United We Stand movement\, have continued to keep up the pressure on government. We have rallied\, visited MLA offices\, written letters\, sung carols (with forest-related lyrics) outside Ravi Parmar’s office. Last November\, we helped to organize the Broken Promises rally\, which highlighted the many promises made by the NDP government concerning old growth protection\, none of which have been kept. Thirteen communities\, right across BC\, participated\, supported by shared materials to help them organize successful events. \nNow it’s time for renewed pressure on the government. Currently\, old growth forests are more under threat than ever. Every day\, roughly 100 soccer fields of old growth are logged\, including areas identified for deferral. That’s over 25\,000 hectares per year\, more than twice the size of Vancouver! As we all know\, once these ancient forest ecosystems are gone\, they’re gone forever. \nThis is why we’re now planning a rally at the BC legislature on October 4\, the day before parliament opens. This rally will be echoed in communities across BC\, from Vancouver Island to Nelson. Each community can decide on their own formats\, but they will be supported by materials developed in Victoria that they can adapt for their own use. \nBC Legislature lawn\, Victoria \nOctober 4\, 1:00–3:00 PM \nSpeakers\, live music\, and a giant “Hands Off” canvas where you can trace your hand

SUMMARY:Hands Off Old Growth Rally
DESCRIPTION:Old growth and primary forests are non-renewable: once they’re logged\, they’re gone forever. Yet B.C. continues to clearcut roughly 100 soccer fields of old growth every single day\, five years after promising a paradigm shift in forest management. Forestry workers are losing more jobs each month.  In response\, communities across BC are organizing on October 4\, the day before the BC legislature opens\, to push for the protection of old growth forests. \nIn Victoria\, join us and trace your hand on our giant “Hands Off” canvas\, raise your voice in unity\, hear from key speakers\, and enjoy live music. Other communities currently planning events are Nelson\, Comox Valley\, and possibly others.

SUMMARY:Gold Rush Women
DESCRIPTION:Beginning with the Fraser River in 1858\, gold rushes shaped BC economically\, socially and physically. While most gold-rush prospectors\, miners and business people were men\, many women were also drawn to BC during these lively times—and not just in ways you might think. This year\, Yvonne Van Ruskenveld and others will focus her annual women’s history tour on women in gold rush BC.

SUMMARY:From Concern to Action: Introducing the PREPARE Framework
DESCRIPTION:Preparing for climate change starts with people. \nRe.Climate’s PREPARE Framework shows communicators how to build agency\, care and trust with their audiences the three conditions that turn climate concern into community action. \nCanada’s Changing Climate 2026 report outlines what is coming: more warming and worse fires\, heat events\, floods and droughts. People are already living with these impacts and want to know what can be done. \nOver the last two years\, Re.Climate has worked with ClimateWest\, the regional hub for climate services in the Prairies\, and SevGen Consulting Inc.\, an Indigenous-owned consulting firm\, on the Climate Ready Prairies project\, developing training and guidance on communicating and engaging with communities in Alberta\, Saskatchewan and Manitoba on climate adaptation and preparedness. Now we are excited to share how this work and insights from the region can be useful to anyone across Canada. \nThe PREPARE Framework distills that work from the Climate Ready Prairies project into a clear set of practices It was developed with and for Prairie communities but offers an approach that communicators in the other parts of the country can use and adapt. \nThe PREPARE Framework is a valuable tool for anyone helping their community to get ready for climate impacts. \nThe webinar will touch on how communicating about adaptation differs from mitigation\, how Indigenous and regional knowledge and expertise shaped the framework\, and the latest on framing and language that can build understanding of climate preparedness.
