DESCRIPTION:Victoria’s history has been shaped by our island location. Shipping\, ship-building\, and all kinds of boats were central to life in early Victoria. This Labour Day weekend\, celebrate classic boats in the Inner Harbour and then hear “salty tales” in the cemetery! Coastal steamers\, luxury yachts and racing yachts\, tugboats\, RCN war ships and patrol vessels\, and car ferries—and the people who built\, owned\, and sailed them—will all be featured on this new OCS team tour\, which will end at the Naval Memorial. The tour will include the grave of W.H. Langley\, original owner of SV Dorothy—Canada’s oldest sailboat still actively sailing\, now part of the collection of the Maritime Museum of BC and a highlight of this year’s Classic Boat Festival.

DESCRIPTION:The Victoria Arion Male Choir: Tradition and Community \nAbout the Choir\nThe Victoria Arion Male Choir represents one of the newest additions to the vibrant choral scene in Victoria\, BC. Formed in the summer of 2018\, the choir is the result of the union between two long-standing ensembles: the Arion Male Voice Choir\, established in 1892\, and the Victoria Male Voice Choir\, founded in 1907. Both groups recognized the opportunity to better pursue their vision of creating “a community of men singing for health and joy” by coming together as one. This merger has proven to be a dynamic and successful venture\, yielding positive results both musically and organizationally. \nOur Mission\nThe choir is dedicated to sustaining the rich tradition of male-voice choral music. Each year\, members share their passion for music through a minimum of two public concerts\, as well as performances at seniors’ residences\, the Victoria Remembrance Day ceremony\, and other community events. In support of music education\, the Victoria Arion Male Choir offers a choral scholarship program\, inviting up to four student musicians annually to join and perform with the group. New members are always welcome to experience the camaraderie and joy of choral singing. \nLeadership\nUnder the direction of Musical Director Sean Lampard-Quicke\, who joined the choir in 2020\, and the accompaniment of collaborative pianist Jennifer Mitchell\, a member since 2019\, the choir continues to thrive and evolve. \nMembership and Rehearsals\nThe Victoria Arion Male Choir is actively seeking new singers for its non-audition choir\, beginning in January 2026. Open houses will be held on Mondays\, January 5th\, 12th\, and 19th; rehearsals start at 7:00 p.m. each Monday.  at Cordova Bay United Church\, located at 813 Claremont Ave. The choir performs four-part harmony\, with a diverse repertoire that includes classical\, spiritual\, folk\, and contemporary selections. SUMMARY:Future Geographies: Art in the Century of Climate Change
DESCRIPTION:As the environmental crisis accelerates\, artists around the world are responding with urgency\, insight and vision. Future Geographies: Art in the Century of Climate Change is the first major exhibition in Canada to examine the intersection of the climate crisis and contemporary art on a global scale. \nFeaturing works from the past 25 years\, this exhibition underscores the urgency and relevance of sustainability and the environment as defining issues of our time. More than 35 works across a range of media—from large-scale video installations to living sculptures—invite viewers to confront pressing questions about our shared future on this planet. \nPresented across multiple floors\, Future Geographies includes a newly commissioned work by Jeffrey Gibson and marks the first time several artists are exhibiting in Vancouver\, including Teresita Fernández\, Josh Kline\, Cannupa Hanska Luger\, Jean Shin and Clarissa Tossin. The exhibition also features major works by BC–based artists such as Brian Jungen\, Gabrielle L’Hirondelle Hill and Lawrence Paul Yuxweluptun Lets’lo:tseltun\, connecting global issues with local specificity. Together\, the works in this exhibition invite dialogue and create space for imagining. \nIn conjunction with the exhibition\, the Vancouver Art Gallery is partnering with the University of British Columbia Climate Action Lab to create unique platforms for cross disciplinary dialogue. After its presentation at the Vancouver Art Gallery\, Future Geographies will travel to the Art Gallery of Ontario. \nFuture Geographies will continue on the Gallery’s 4th Floor with the immersive installation SANCTUARY: The Ancient Forest Experience\, by Dr. T’uy’t’tanat Cease Wyss\, Damien Gillis and Olivier Leroux\, and a presentation of cedar works by local artists\, curated by Dr. Wyss. On Thursdays and Fridays at 11AM and 1PM\, or Saturdays at 2PM\, walk down the path past heritage apple trees and beautiful gardens\, and step into one of only a few 1860s houses still standing in Victoria. From the bright and airy drawing room to the charming children’s bedroom\, the house has been restored with extraordinary care to appear as it did when the Roscoe family called it home.  \n  \nAdmission is $7.50 per person.
