DESCRIPTION:Canada’s National Indigenous Peoples’ Day honours and celebrates First Nations\, Inuit\, and Métis pasts\, presents\, and futures. A team of OCS presenters will visit the graves of First Nations and Métis people\, some resting here on their traditional territories and others whose fur trade connections took them far from their traditional homes. SUMMARY:New Forest Act Roadshow Event
DESCRIPTION:oin us for a big event!  Elders for Ancient Trees is excited to partner with Broad View United Church to sponsor the Victoria leg of the New Forest Act Roadshow. \nThe June tour includes events in 11 communities (Golden\, Nelson\, Trail\, 100 Mile House\, Campbell River\, Quadra Island\, Courtenay\, Port Alberni\, Honeymoon Bay\, Powell River\, and Victoria). \nThis is a rare opportunity to consider and discuss a forestry regime that can serve forests and local communities. \nLed by Jennifer Houghton\, whose  videos we have featured in earlier Callouts\, the event will be a focused presentation on the New Forest Act—a legislative proposal to replace British Columbia’s current forestry system. \nThis is a critical time to imagine and explore transformative change for precious forests. \nHere are a couple of Jennifer’s videos:You Can’t Export What You Don’t Have: The Reason BC’s Forestry Strategy Is Already Failing and The Forestry Jobs Myth: How Destruction Gets Sold as Work \nJennifer’s down-to-earth and focused style will make some hard hits about what’s actually happening in BC’s forests\, why the current system no longer works\, what critical changes are needed and how the New Forest Act would work in practice. Grounded in three key principles based on a 3-zone approach\, the NFA would: \n\nProtect what must remain intact (old growth\, primary\, untouched by humans)\nRestore what has been degraded\nHarvest where ecosystems can support it\n\nFor full details on the legislative framework: New Forest Act BC Proposal\nWe look forward to a big community engagement on June 22. Join us and bring your friends!

SUMMARY:PEOPLE'S MOU DAY OF ACTION - JUNE 25
DESCRIPTION:The federal government’s recent MOU with Alberta Premier Danielle Smith opens the door to a new tar sands pipeline and signals a dangerous rollback of climate commitments and environmental protections. With plans for a west coast pipeline route potentially moving ahead as early as July 1\, this is a critical moment to speak out. \nJoin people across Canada in delivering a People’s MOU to their MPs\, urging them to protect our communities\, climate\, and future—not provide more handouts to the fossil fuel industry. \nTwo actions are planned in Victoria: \n• 10:00 a.m. – MP Stephanie McLean’s office\, 50 Burnside Road West\n• 11:00 a.m. – MP Will Greaves’ office\, 852 Fort Street \nFor more info or to sign up\, click here. \nPlease also share this invitation with others who may be interested.

SUMMARY:People's MOU Day of Action Penticton
DESCRIPTION:The Canadian government’s latest Pipeline MOU with Alberta is the final nail in the coffin for Canada’s climate policy. It’s time to rise up and stop Big Oil from winning everything on their wishlist. \nOn June 25th\, join us for a national day of action calling on Members of Parliament to sign an MOU with the people — a deal to protect our communities\, our climate\, and our future. One week before the proposed route for the West Coast pipeline is set to be announced\, people from across Canada will take action at their local MP offices. \nTogether\, we will call on our elected leaders to sign a deal with the people. \nOur goal is to demonstrate widespread public opposition to the federal government’s recent actions to slash climate policies\, gut environmental protection\, and fast-track destructive fossil fuel projects. \n12 noon to 1 PM. Meet at Helena Konanz’s office 196 Wade Ave West in Penticton for Similkameen/West Kootenay/South Okanagan citizens. Bring signs.  REGISTER https://350.org/mou/?r=US&c=NA

SUMMARY:Sound Bath
DESCRIPTION:Date: June 27 \nTime: 6:45 PM – 8:00 PM \nLocation: The Sanctuary\, 111 Superior Street\, Victoria BC \nTickets: $35 \n  \nSome events feel different. \n  \nThis is one of them. \n  \nIn 2019\, we lost our sweet Lexi. One of my last memories with her is a warm summer day filled with laughter. I remember the lilacs in the air\, the sound of us playing in the vineyard\, and her bright little smile. It was one of those moments you never realize will become a memory you carry forever. \n  \nWhen someone you love leaves this world\, their absence changes everything. \n  \nBut sometimes\, their love finds new ways to stay. \n  \nA Million Acts of Love was created in Lexi’s honour. What began from unimaginable heartbreak became something beautiful—a way for her love to continue moving through the world. Through their Changemaker Program\, young people are given the opportunity to turn their ideas\, passions\, and dreams into projects that create real change in their communities. \n  \nEvery time I think about that\, I’m reminded that love doesn’t end. It transforms. \n  \nOn June 27th\, I’ll be holding a Sound Bath in support of this incredible organization. \n  \nFor me\, sound baths are more than relaxation. They are a chance to slow down long enough to hear yourself again. To soften. To release what you’ve been carrying. To rest in a world that asks so much of us. They create space to simply be. \n  \nWhat makes this evening so meaningful is that it offers an opportunity to both receive and give. \n  \nAs you allow yourself to be supported\, you’re also helping support young people who want to make the world a little kinder\, a little brighter\, and a little more connected. \n  \nAll proceeds will support youth through the A Million Acts of Love Changemaker Program. \n  \nIf Lexi’s story touches your heart\, if you’ve ever loved someone deeply\, if you’ve ever needed a moment to rest\, or if you simply want to be part of something meaningful\, I would be honoured to share this evening with you. \n  \nWhat began from unimaginable heartbreak became something beautiful—a way for her love to continue moving through the world. I think Lexi would be pretty proud of what her love has become. \n❤️ \n  \n

SUMMARY:How to handle challenging conversations about proportional representation
DESCRIPTION:Canada’s last election pushed us closer than ever to a two-party system. \nIf we want better choices at the ballot box\, fair results\, and more cooperative politics\, we need proportional representation. \nIt’s up to us to keep building the movement for PR and to push politicians\, party members and allies to support and prioritize PR. The conversations you have can make the difference! \n\nOn Tuesday June 30\, join us for a workshop with two experienced volunteers on how to have challenging conversations about proportional representation. \nThe workshop will focus almost entirely on role-playing. \nRoberta Tevlin and Ted Cragg will show how to answer the most common and challenging concerns people raise about PR in a way that fosters an open mind and builds support. \nTheir role-playing demonstration will be followed by hands-on practice in breakout rooms. This will be a fun\, supportive and practical workshop to help you become a more confident advocate. \nRegister here: https://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/Ly5HWSndSo6RqfHa0oBEjg#/registration
