SUMMARY:How to Meet with Your MLA: Influencing BC's Leaders on Climate Action
DESCRIPTION:Want to influence climate action in BC? Join this training to explore the BC Climate Emergency Campaign’s 2025 Climate Action Progress Report\, a powerful\, science-backed report that highlights what the BC government has accomplished and\, more importantly\, the urgent action still needed. The 2025 Progress Report gave the BC government 8 out of 10 failing grades – and yet\, MLAs keep telling us their constituents no longer care about climate action. Let’s prove them wrong! \nYou don’t need to be a climate expert or have all the facts and figures to make a difference! As a constituent\, your MLA works for you\, and meeting with them\, whether on your own or with other community members\, can help educate them and push for stronger climate action.\nIn this session\, we’ll cover: \n– Why it’s important to meet with your MLA\n– Key messages from the Progress Report\n– How to reach out to your MLA and prepare for your meeting\n– Tips for effective relationship-building and advocacy during your meeting \nWhether you’re new to political engagement or already involved\, this training will give you the tools to make your voice heard! \nRegister here: https://us06web.zoom.us/meeting/register/RQ-4Nm3NRKWmFOOx8-b1NA#/registration

SUMMARY:Fired Up! 42nd Annual Ceramics Show and Sale
DESCRIPTION:The annual Fired Up! -Contemporary Works in Clay event is a highlight of the Canadian ceramics art scene. For its 42nd year\, the group explores the concept of “Ebb and Flow”. In art making\, as in life itself\, there is a natural cycle of ebb and flow. Artists who work in clay inherently embrace the transformations and rearrangements of both their medium’s properties and their creative process. Clay fluctuates between liquid\, semi-solid\, dry and then vitreous\, glassy states and potters work to coax desired effects along this ever-changing rhythm. They are patient; their work involves engagement in stages and evolutions\, knowing when to take the lead\, and when to let the materials do their work. The cycle of making is a dynamic\, rhythmic choreography of preparing\, building\, guiding\, combining\, experimenting\, while embracing the importance of timing. It involves a lifetime of developing an intuition for when and how to influence the materiality of the clay through its fluctuations and resulting metamorphosis. We as artists are in a constant state of flux and flow as is the clay we embrace as our partner in creating art. Becoming a ceramic artist is a life-long\, non-linear process and our group is a working example of the ebb and flow of artistic development across time as we showcase the work of emerging artists to that of renowned masters in our field. \nURL:\nWebsite: https://go.evvnt.com/3597038-0?pid=10320 \nDate and Time: On Sat\, 30 May 2026 10:00 – Sun\, 31 May 2026 17:00 \nVenue details: Metchosin Community Hall\, 4401 William Head Road\, Victoria\, British Columbia\, V9C 3Z3\, Canada \nCategory: Arts

SUMMARY:Deaths by Mistake
DESCRIPTION:Accidental deaths were a common feature of life in Victoria’s past. Some resulted from chance or fate\, but most involved human error or mistaken judgments. This OCS team tour will feature sometimes gruesome stories of accidental death that received extensive newspaper coverage. They offer an unusual window into the daily lives of Victorians and the hazards they encountered on land and sea\, at home\, on the street\, and on the job. Some of these hazards seem familiar\, and some we could never have imagined!

SUMMARY:Love to Sing!!!!!! The Victoria Arion Male Choir Invitation to January 2026 Open Houses
DESCRIPTION:The Victoria Arion Male Choir: Tradition and Community \nAbout the Choir\nThe Victoria Arion Male Choir represents one of the newest additions to the vibrant choral scene in Victoria\, BC. Formed in the summer of 2018\, the choir is the result of the union between two long-standing ensembles: the Arion Male Voice Choir\, established in 1892\, and the Victoria Male Voice Choir\, founded in 1907. Both groups recognized the opportunity to better pursue their vision of creating “a community of men singing for health and joy” by coming together as one. This merger has proven to be a dynamic and successful venture\, yielding positive results both musically and organizationally. \nOur Mission\nThe choir is dedicated to sustaining the rich tradition of male-voice choral music. Each year\, members share their passion for music through a minimum of two public concerts\, as well as performances at seniors’ residences\, the Victoria Remembrance Day ceremony\, and other community events. In support of music education\, the Victoria Arion Male Choir offers a choral scholarship program\, inviting up to four student musicians annually to join and perform with the group. New members are always welcome to experience the camaraderie and joy of choral singing. \nLeadership\nUnder the direction of Musical Director Sean Lampard-Quicke\, who joined the choir in 2020\, and the accompaniment of collaborative pianist Jennifer Mitchell\, a member since 2019\, the choir continues to thrive and evolve. \nMembership and Rehearsals\nThe Victoria Arion Male Choir is actively seeking new singers for its non-audition choir\, beginning in January 2026. Open houses will be held on Mondays\, January 5th\, 12th\, and 19th; rehearsals start at 7:00 p.m. each Monday.  at Cordova Bay United Church\, located at 813 Claremont Ave. The choir performs four-part harmony\, with a diverse repertoire that includes classical\, spiritual\, folk\, and contemporary selections. Additionally\, the choir welcomes applications for its choral scholar program. \nFor those interested in joining as a new member or learning more about the choral scholar program\, please contact Jim Johnson at jimmysj@shaw.ca or visit the choir’s website at www.vamc.ca. \n
