SUMMARY:Love to Sing!!!!!! The Victoria Arion Male Choir Invitation to January 2026 Open Houses
DESCRIPTION:The Victoria Arion Male Choir: Tradition and Community \nAbout the Choir\nThe Victoria Arion Male Choir represents one of the newest additions to the vibrant choral scene in Victoria\, BC. Formed in the summer of 2018\, the choir is the result of the union between two long-standing ensembles: the Arion Male Voice Choir\, established in 1892\, and the Victoria Male Voice Choir\, founded in 1907. Both groups recognized the opportunity to better pursue their vision of creating “a community of men singing for health and joy” by coming together as one. This merger has proven to be a dynamic and successful venture\, yielding positive results both musically and organizationally. \nOur Mission\nThe choir is dedicated to sustaining the rich tradition of male-voice choral music. Each year\, members share their passion for music through a minimum of two public concerts\, as well as performances at seniors’ residences\, the Victoria Remembrance Day ceremony\, and other community events. In support of music education\, the Victoria Arion Male Choir offers a choral scholarship program\, inviting up to four student musicians annually to join and perform with the group. New members are always welcome to experience the camaraderie and joy of choral singing. \nLeadership\nUnder the direction of Musical Director Sean Lampard-Quicke\, who joined the choir in 2020\, and the accompaniment of collaborative pianist Jennifer Mitchell\, a member since 2019\, the choir continues to thrive and evolve. \nMembership and Rehearsals\nThe Victoria Arion Male Choir is actively seeking new singers for its non-audition choir\, beginning in January 2026. Open houses will be held on Mondays\, January 5th\, 12th\, and 19th; rehearsals start at 7:00 p.m. each Monday.  at Cordova Bay United Church\, located at 813 Claremont Ave. The choir performs four-part harmony\, with a diverse repertoire that includes classical\, spiritual\, folk\, and contemporary selections. Additionally\, the choir welcomes applications for its choral scholar program. \nFor those interested in joining as a new member or learning more about the choral scholar program\, please contact Jim Johnson at jimmysj@shaw.ca or visit the choir’s website at www.vamc.ca. \n

SUMMARY:A Place Where I Belong Victoria Screening
DESCRIPTION:Victoria folks\, please join us for this documentary screening. Entrance is by donation\, which also means it can be free. Everyone is welcome. There will be a post screening Q&A discussion with local experts and filmmakers. This event is hosted by Community Living BC’s South Island Community Council. \nSynopsis \nFacing a system that does not fully see them as human\, six 2SLGBTQIA+ people with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities (I/DD) work to be seen\, to love\, and to be free through Connecting Queer* Communities\, a bold program that is at risk of ending. Through CQC\, the participants find safety and support while learning about their sexual feelings and gender identity. People with I/DD are often left out of queer communities because caregivers may feel uncomfortable with their sexuality\, and they are often kept apart from society\, which limits their chances to understand and express their queer identity. CQC shows how inclusion can change lives and helps create a world where everyone can find a place they belong. \n*Queer is a word some people use to describe themselves if their feelings\, gender\, or who they love is different from what society expects. It can include people who are gay\, lesbian\, bisexual\, transgender\, non-binary\, and others. \nOur panelists will be announced as they are confirmed. \n6:30pm – Doors open \n7:00pm – Film starts \n8:00pm – Panel Discussion with director Rheanna Toy and members of the film \nThe STORY TO ACTION program would like to thank our funders for making this event possible.

SUMMARY:Restoration of Our Past and Future: Towards a Way of Life (Free talk)
DESCRIPTION:Join Dr. Richard Heba to learn how we can all participate in the respectful rebalancing of global systems and human communities though big and small actions. \nThirty years ago\, Continuing Studies at UVic identified a training gap in the developing field of Restoration. Well ahead of others\, a unique program of holistic restoration blending science\, social sciences\, and the humanities emerged. From politics to plant ecology\, we invited all to participate whatever their background. We included practical experience in the field and in the human community. \nToday\, global systems of water (hydrosphere)\, air (atmosphere)\, life (biosphere) and land (geosphere) are widely out of balance as a fifth system humanity (sociosphere) robs energy and resources. Pushing aside the laws of nature\, our present system alters global climates and leads to the catastrophic depletion of the diversity of life. \nHolistic Restoration presents a way of life\, to bring humanity into equilibrium with the earth!
