SUMMARY:TEA CREEK: a free film screening on Indigenous food sovereignty
DESCRIPTION:Join us at Mahon Hall for a free community screening of TEA CREEK\, a documentary about Indigenous food sovereignty and regenerative agriculture\, presented by the Salt Spring Island Farmland Trust and Story Money Impact. \nIn just three years\, Indigenous activist Jacob Beaton transformed his family farm in Kitwanga\, BC\, into Tea Creek — an award-winning\, Indigenous-led\, culturally safe\, land-based Indigenous food sovereignty and trades training centre dedicated to restoring traditional agricultural knowledge and food systems. \nTea Creek’s mission is to revitalize the culture of economic interdependence and food production that was a central part of life for Indigenous peoples throughout the Americas. \nThe film follows Tea Creek through the growing season and explores the impacts of colonization\, resilience and community-led healing. \nFollowing the film screening\, stay for a panel discussion on regenerative and Indigenous agriculture\, with local and regional voices. Panelists will be announced as they are confirmed. \nSchedule:\n• 1:30 pm: Doors open\n• 2:00 pm: Film Screening\n• 3:15 pm: Panel & Discussion (45 min)\n• 4:00 pm: Reception\n• 4:30 pm: Event Ends \nEveryone is welcome! But space is limited — please register in advance. \nRegister here:\nhttps://www.storymoneyimpact.com/saltspring\n(Free registration – space is limited) \nVisit Tea Creek’s website:\nhttps://www.teacreek.ca
