SUMMARY:The Black Hair Salon: The Story of Our Crowns
DESCRIPTION:Hair has always carried meaning. For Black women\, it holds memory\, resistance\, care\, grief\, creativity\, and pride. \nThe Story of Our Crowns brings together Black women with diverse histories\, lived experiences\, and expertise to explore the complex and deeply personal relationship we have with our hair. Through honest conversation\, the panel will reflect on hair as a site of growth and transformation\, a vessel of legacy passed through generations\, and a space where hard truths (such as hair loss\, alopecia\, and medical realities) are often carried quietly. \nThis conversation moves beyond beauty standards to centre hair as part of life itself: how it shapes identity\, how it connects us to culture and ancestry\, and how it evolves alongside our stories. \nIn partnership with the Royal BC Museum and facilitated by Assetou Coulibaly\, this panel creates space for reflection\, learning\, and collective understanding. We invite audiences to listen\, unlearn\, and honour the many stories held in our crowns. \nThe evening includes light snacks and drinks. \nStay tuned for the panellists to be officially announced. \nThe Story of Our Crowns is a heartfelt production from Reverie Collective\, a full-service event planning and consulting company rooted in sustainability\, cultural storytelling\, and community connection. Founders Assetou Coulibaly\, Haley Johnson\, and Erika Renfrew curate from intimate gatherings to grand affairs\, thoughtfully designing with eco-conscious practices\, collaborating with local partners\, and creating experiences that leave lasting memories without unnecessary waste. Reverie Collective is rooted in love for people\, community\, and our Earth. Beyond planning\, we offer consulting services to help individuals\, brands\, and organizations reimagine how they gather—crafting celebrations that are as mindful as they are magical.
