SUMMARY:Tomato Breeding & Northern Trait Selection
DESCRIPTION:Fresh homegrown tomato season is just around the corner! Come learn the breeding stories of the tomatoes featured in this years’ Citizen Seed Trial\, and developed in Canada by independent breeder\, Karen Olivier. A search for flavour and short-season tomato varieties\, led this Northern Gardener down the path to breeding dozens of tomatoes over the past 15 years\, with many successful varieties showing up around the globe. Get a taste for what happens behind the scenes in northern variety development. \nWith thanks to funding from TD Friends of the Environment Foundation \nRegister: https://farmfolkcityfolk.ca/event/tomato-breeding-northern-trait-selection/

SUMMARY:How to handle challenging conversations about proportional representation
DESCRIPTION:Canada’s last election pushed us closer than ever to a two-party system. \nIf we want better choices at the ballot box\, fair results\, and more cooperative politics\, we need proportional representation. \nIt’s up to us to keep building the movement for PR and to push politicians\, party members and allies to support and prioritize PR. The conversations you have can make the difference! \n\nOn Tuesday June 30\, join us for a workshop with two experienced volunteers on how to have challenging conversations about proportional representation. \nThe workshop will focus almost entirely on role-playing. \nRoberta Tevlin and Ted Cragg will show how to answer the most common and challenging concerns people raise about PR in a way that fosters an open mind and builds support. \nTheir role-playing demonstration will be followed by hands-on practice in breakout rooms. This will be a fun\, supportive and practical workshop to help you become a more confident advocate. \nRegister here: https://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/Ly5HWSndSo6RqfHa0oBEjg#/registration

SUMMARY:How to Meet with Your MLA: Influencing BC's Leaders on Climate Action
DESCRIPTION:Want to influence climate action in BC? Join this training to explore the BC Climate Emergency Campaign’s 2025 Climate Action Progress Report\, a powerful\, science-backed report that highlights what the BC government has accomplished and\, more importantly\, the urgent action still needed. The 2025 Progress Report gave the BC government 8 out of 10 failing grades – and yet\, MLAs keep telling us their constituents no longer care about climate action. Let’s prove them wrong! \nYou don’t need to be a climate expert or have all the facts and figures to make a difference! As a constituent\, your MLA works for you\, and meeting with them\, whether on your own or with other community members\, can help educate them and push for stronger climate action.\nIn this session\, we’ll cover: \n– Why it’s important to meet with your MLA\n– Key messages from the Progress Report\n– How to reach out to your MLA and prepare for your meeting\n– Tips for effective relationship-building and advocacy during your meeting \nWhether you’re new to political engagement or already involved\, this training will give you the tools to make your voice heard! \nRegister here: https://us06web.zoom.us/meeting/register/RQ-4Nm3NRKWmFOOx8-b1NA#/registration
