SUMMARY:Webinar about Gaza Children's Hospital
DESCRIPTION:Friends of Standing Together Canada invite you to a conversation with Dr. David Hasan on building a children’s hospital in Gaza. The webinar will focus on the urgent need for this initiative\, which is part of the Gaza Children’s Village initiative\, as well as on fostering connection and peacebuilding in Israel/Palestine\, and ways to get involved.\nWhen: *April 26\, 2026*\nTime: *1:00–2:00 PM (PDT)*\nPlease reserve your spot using this link:.\nhttps://www.eventbrite.ca/e/building-a-children’s-hospital-in-gaza-tickets-1987585224912?aff=oddtdtcreator\nIf you would like to support this initiative\, you can also donate directly here: https://thegazachildrenvillage.org/childrens-specialty-hospital/\n\nWe plan to form a local Victoria chapter of “FRIENDS OF GAZA CHILDREN’S VILLAGE”  to support this vital project. Dr Hasan is a Palestinian Paediatric Neurosurgeon and since October 7\, he has devoted himself to delivering humanitarian aid to Gaza and fostering hope between Palestinians and Israelis. He currently leads a multi-governmental initiative to build the Gaza Children’s Village\, which will provide shelter\, education and healthcare for 20\,000 orphans\, unaccompanied minors and children with complex medical needs. The village will feature housing\, a school with a peace-oriented curriculum\, the first dedicated children’s field hospital\, a rehabilitation center and recreational spaces. \nAdditionally\, Dr. Hasan co-founded Lumflies\, a platform designed to foster collaboration and hope between Palestinians and Israelis\, working toward a brighter future. \nSalaam-Shalom \nDr. Robert Oppenheimer \nCEE.Refugee@gmail.com

SUMMARY:Protecting Trees\, Dispelling Myths
DESCRIPTION:While many celebrate a succession of sunny days\, the topic turns serious when fish-bearing streams run dry and forests\, trees and gardens wither under the extremes of drought. \nWater restrictions have limited what farmers and industry formerly took for granted and in many parts of BC the situation has already proven deadly. \nAre we putting too much emphasis on targetting trees as a fire threat while we trustingly leave our highly flammable\, plastic-laden vehicles parked in or next to our residences? \nIn celebration of Earth Week and in honour of our urban and established forests\, Creatively United presents a free webinar/conversation and Q&A with some of BC’s leading experts on tree preservation in light of a changing climate and the threat of fire. \nLearn how to discern truth from half-truth (or fiction)\, protect and preserve trees\, your community\, home and loved ones from the growing threat of fire in an era of climate uncertainty. \nHerb Hammond\, forest ecologist\, professional forester\, author; Rachel Holt\, independant ecologist\, professional biologist; and Dave Daust\, forester\, landscape analyst will dispel some of the myths perpetuated by government agencies and social media to reveal how the public can better protect trees and nature in their community and elsewhere. They will also be joined by a conservation biologist and a local FireSmart representative to interpret the FireSmart recommendations for natural landscapes around homes. \nModerated by conservationists Grace Golightly and Creatively United founder Frances Litman. \nCan’t attend the live webinar? Not to worry\, a recording of this event will be sent to all registrants. \nRegister: https://zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_X9mdKbeGQhSvgMRuElYTOA

SUMMARY:WEBINAR: Canadians (still) care about climate change
DESCRIPTION:With economic uncertainty weighing on Canadians\, many wonder\, have climate advocates lost the public to other priorities? \nNew national research from Re.Climate and Abacus Data shows that despite affordability pressures\, Canadians still care about climate change—and talking about it actually increases support for renewable energy and preparing for climate impacts. \nThere are\, however\, still warning signs. Compared to 2023\, more Canadians think climate change’s impacts are exaggerated and there’s more evidence that conspiracy thinking is playing a role in shaping public perceptions. \nBut the fact remains: Canadians want to build out renewables\, they would feel more pride in the country if it was a renewable energy super power and want to see politicians keep their climate promises. Public support hasn’t disappeared\, so we shouldn’t act like it has. \nIn this webinar\, David Coletto\, founder and CEO of Abacus Data and Re.Climate Senior Advisor Dr. Louise Comeau will share findings from new research on how Canadians are thinking about climate change\, including how hopeful they are about solutions\, and how perspectives differ across regions and groups. \nThey will also explore what this means for communicators and what narratives that resonate with Canadians. \nRegister: https://us02web.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_VrruNPuSR8Se91co9-pt1w#/registration
