SUMMARY:Outer Worlds Imax Film Screening
DESCRIPTION:Outer Worlds is a series of five short experimental films curated by Janine Marchessault. The Victoria screening will be followed by a Q and A with the curator\, Janine Machessault and our host\, Chris Chong Chan Fui along with Outer World artists\, Kelly Richardson and Leila Sujir. \nOuter Worlds presents five remarkable IMAX films by: \nLeila Sujir\nLisa Jackson\nOliver Husain\nMichael Snow\nKelly Richardson \nEach film explores expanded cinema through encounters with the non-human world: forests\, lichen\, water\, sky\, and other ecological systems. Together they offer an immersive cinematic experience that reflects on our relationship with the planet and the urgent environmental questions of our time. \nOuter Worlds includes two films that were shot in the forests of Pacheedaht Territory. Pacheedaht Elder Bill Jones will be present to speak before the screening and free copies of his chapbook\, Chronicles of the Forest\, will be available (in limited supply). \nThe program will also include a rare screening of North of Superior (1971) by Graeme Ferguson\, the co-inventor of IMAX and director of the first film ever shot entirely in the IMAX format. \nThis special presentation is part of the Outer Worlds program produced by the Public Access Collective\, supported by the Canada Council for the Arts. \nEvent Details:\nOuter Worlds – IMAX Screening\nRoyal BC Museum IMAX Theatre\nVictoria\, British Columbia\nSunday\, April 19\, 2026 | 3:00 PM\nFree admission (ticket reservation required)\nhttps://www.eventbrite.ca/e/outer-worlds-imax-preceded-by-north-of-superior-tickets-1982594096312

SUMMARY:The Story Collection: Wildlife Photographer of the Year
DESCRIPTION:Join us for the next installment of The Story Collection\, where community storytellers gather to share personal narratives inspired by the galleries at the Royal BC Museum. Set against the stunning backdrop of the Wildlife Photographer of the Year exhibition\, this evening explores the theme “What the Wild Taught Me\,” inviting storytellers to reflect on the lessons\, revelations\, and transformations that have emerged from their encounters with nature. Whether it’s a moment of quiet observation\, an unexpected adventure\, or a profound shift in perspective\, each story will illuminate the ways wilderness shapes who we are. \nWhile taking in the exhibition’s breathtaking images of our planet’s diverse ecosystems and creatures\, our storytellers will bring their own experiences to life\, creating an intimate dialogue between visual artistry and spoken word. This is storytelling at its most authentic: heartfelt\, at times hilarious\, and deeply human. Come ready to listen\, connect\, and perhaps see both the exhibition and your own relationship with the natural world through fresh eyes. \nURLs:\nTickets: https://go.evvnt.com/3509099-0?pid=10320\nWebsite: https://go.evvnt.com/3509099-2?pid=10320 \nDate and Time: On Wednesday March 11\, 2026 at 19:00 – 21:00 \nVenue details: Royal BC Museum\, 675 Belleville Street\, Victoria\, British Columbia\, V8W 9W2\, Canada \nCategory: Community \nPrice:\nGeneral Admission: CAD 20.00

SUMMARY:The Black Hair Salon: The Story of Our Crowns
DESCRIPTION:Hair has always carried meaning. For Black women\, it holds memory\, resistance\, care\, grief\, creativity\, and pride. \nThe Story of Our Crowns brings together Black women with diverse histories\, lived experiences\, and expertise to explore the complex and deeply personal relationship we have with our hair. Through honest conversation\, the panel will reflect on hair as a site of growth and transformation\, a vessel of legacy passed through generations\, and a space where hard truths (such as hair loss\, alopecia\, and medical realities) are often carried quietly. \nThis conversation moves beyond beauty standards to centre hair as part of life itself: how it shapes identity\, how it connects us to culture and ancestry\, and how it evolves alongside our stories. \nIn partnership with the Royal BC Museum and facilitated by Assetou Coulibaly\, this panel creates space for reflection\, learning\, and collective understanding. We invite audiences to listen\, unlearn\, and honour the many stories held in our crowns. \nThe evening includes light snacks and drinks. \nStay tuned for the panellists to be officially announced. \nThe Story of Our Crowns is a heartfelt production from Reverie Collective\, a full-service event planning and consulting company rooted in sustainability\, cultural storytelling\, and community connection. Founders Assetou Coulibaly\, Haley Johnson\, and Erika Renfrew curate from intimate gatherings to grand affairs\, thoughtfully designing with eco-conscious practices\, collaborating with local partners\, and creating experiences that leave lasting memories without unnecessary waste. Reverie Collective is rooted in love for people\, community\, and our Earth. Beyond planning\, we offer consulting services to help individuals\, brands\, and organizations reimagine how they gather—crafting celebrations that are as mindful as they are magical.
