Jean-Philippe Marquis ’ visually dazzling, Award-winning feature documentary, Silvicola (2023 Hot Docs John Kastner Award, 2023 Planet in Focus Best Canadian Feature, 2024 VIMFF Best Environmental Film), returns to Vancouver Island with 7 screenings from October 5 – 11 with the director and local experts in attendance. The film tour is co-sponsored and in collaboration with Sierra Club BC
The film vividly captures the hidden labour behind modern forestry practices, shining a light on the fraught tensions between commodification and conservation of old growth forests amidst a frightening decline of British Columbia’s ancient woodland.
