ILLUMINARE: Wings of Silence

Saturday, May 2 @ 3:00 pm - 5:30 pm

The inaugural event of the 2026 Celebrating Gaia Series, features the BC Premiere of magnificent choral work by Christopher Tin, presented by the Capriccio Vocal Ensemble. Wings of Silence offers a moving artistic experience grounded in environmental awareness — a soaring tribute to the beauty of flight and a poignant lament for species lost to time. This immersive performance is enriched by a collaboration of images provided by the Rocky Point Bird Observatory (RPBO).

A special pre-concert panel discussion at 2 pm Saturday, May 2 at Christ Church Cathedral, 930 Burdett Ave., will feature Ann Nightingale (RPBO) and Dr. Richard Kool (Royal Roads University), exploring the intersection of art, science, and environmental stewardship. Audience members are also invited to explore information tables hosted by local nature and conservation groups before and after the performance. Original artwork by Arts Calibre Academy students will also be on display. A raffle will support the Swan Lake Nature Sanctuary.

A second performance on Sunday, May 3, at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, 10030 Third St, Sidney will feature a special 20-minute pre-concert guest presentation (at 7 pm) by Dr. Tracy Underwood, W̱SÁNEĆ Matriarch and Professor at the University of Victoria, offering an insightful Indigenous perspective on stewardship, knowledge, and connection to the land. Audience members are also invited to explore information tables hosted by local nature and conservation groups before and after the performance.

Sponsored by the Gail O’Riordan Climate and the Arts Legacy Fund.
