Sooke Black Heritage Week

Monday, February 16 @ 11:00 am - 3:00 pm
Free

Calling Sooke residents, Black individuals and families with roots in African, Caribbean, Latin American, and other diasporic communities – Join us for a week-long celebration of Black Heritage in Sooke, aligned with BC Heritage Week and Black History Month – starting on Family Day!

The theme of BC Heritage Week 2026, “Stir the Pot,” aligns powerfully with theme of Black History Month, “Out of Many Cultures, One People,” by celebrating the richness that emerges when diverse food traditions, stories, cultures, and voices come together.

Throughout the week, the program will highlight the lived experiences of being Black in Sooke through food, music, dance, storytelling, and cultural traditions, while creating a welcoming space for dialogue around Black identity, community connection, and the ongoing fight against racism. Ultimately, the Sooke Black Heritage Week seeks to strengthen community life by valuing diversity and fostering collective action toward greater understanding, equity, and social cohesion.
