Eyes on Old Growth Campaign Launch

Sunday, February 15 @ 10:00 am - 5:00 pm

Join us for a day (or two!) in old-growth forests near Fairy Creek.
EYES ON OLD GROWTH 🌳 invites you to River Camp, among ancient trees, as we launch our movement by bringing together our community for learning activities and a bio-blitz. 🦋💚 Note: this is a safe space for all family members as it is outside any injunction zone and is not an active cutblock.

We start our movement by bringing awareness to a pristine old-growth forest. A logging permit has been requested only 30m away from the intact Fairy Creek watershed. Learn why this area should be protected ‼️

WHEN: Sunday, February 15 and Monday, February 16

TIMES: 10 a.m. start time (see schedule below). Last shuttle at 11:30AM

WHERE: River Camp (Fairy Creek) 48.636811, -124.293046

PARKING: Shuttles from the gravel pit 48.598241, -124.279333

WEATHER: Snow and rain are possible.
BRING: Potluck item for sharing if possible and be completely self-sufficient (water, food, clothing etc).

Sunday, February 15

▪️10 AM – Arrive at River Camp (48.636811, -124.293046). Make sure you have enough time to drive the 7K between Pacific Marine and River Camp. It’s an uphill climb on poor logging roads but we will also have a shuttle so you can park your car at the gravel pit (48.598241,-124.279333). The last shuttle up will be at 11:30 AM.

▪️10:30 AM – Circle with Elder Bill Jones and launch of Eyes on Old Growth

▪️11:30 AM – Lunch – There will be many tables to visit: Merch, arts and craft, comment writing and more!

▪️12:30 PM – Hike into the old-growth proposed cutblock. It is a fairly strenuous hike but also fairly easy to move through the steep terrain. There will be activities at River Camp for those not choosing to hike the cut block.

▪️6 PM – Bonfire with live entertainment at River Camp.

▪️8 PM – Listen for Western Screech Owls – We will be recording what we hear as evidence of these unique birds.

🏕️Overnight stay – Join us overnight for Monday’s bio-blitz (more info to come)
