“Earth and sky, woods and fields, lakes and rivers, the mountain and the sea, are excellent schoolmasters, and teach some of us more than we can ever learn from books.” — John Lubbock.

For those who feel an interconnectedness with nature, let us not forget the lessons that Vancouver’s wildlife can teach us. This is reflected in Nature Vancouver, which organizes events that foster enjoyment and conservation of the city’s natural environment.

The organization has recently introduced its upcoming event, “Birds and Butterflies: Yew Lake Trail Walk,” taking place on August 9, 2026, at 9 a.m.

Led by Angela Hansen and Neill Vanhinsberg, “the goal of this series of walks is to observe seasonal changes in the sub-alpine ecosystem over the spring and summer in the birds, wildflowers, and insects.”

This event is the third of four nature walks occurring this summer. The focus of this nature walk is to observe the behaviour of birds and butterflies, such as caring for fledglings, foraging in mixed flocks, and preparing for migration.

Spending a morning with the birds and butterflies is a captivating way to discover Vancouver’s wildlife. Let nature be our primary influence as it guides us through the final months of summer.
