We welcome all grade 6-12 students in Greater Victoria to participate in the One Planet Living Student ChallengeThanks for sharing this information with students or teachers in Greater Victoria. Students can enter one of two categories (video or illustration) – to explore: How can we bring One Planet Living ideas into our communities and personal lives? This is about increasing our health and happiness, enjoying sustainable food, getting around by biking, walking or busing more, going zero waste, and more.
  • Full contest details are here – with $1,200 in cash prizes.
  • Student submissions will be accepted between April 4 to May 20.
Winners will receive cash prizes and participate in a June celebration event. They will also be showcased on the One Planet BC website – www.oneplanetbc.com. This One Planet BC contest is led by OneEarth in collaboration with the District of Saanich and the City of Victoria. It builds from the successes of One Planet Saanich, where local schools, businesses and organisations take action together.

Take Action with Your Neighbours (explore the new BC-based guide)

Do you want to make a difference, but don’t know where to start? OneEarth’s new Lighter Living Action Pack for Neighbourhoods in BC can help you take action for the wellbeing of the planet and your community. In the guide, you’ll find fun and inspiring actions you can take on your own, with a few others, or with your whole neighbourhood. Will you hold a neighbourhood-wide garage sale? Or make a plan to share tools (or toys!) on your block? Pick something and then bring your idea to life! Together, we can build connected and earth-friendly neighbourhoods and communities.

Each of the seven packages in the guide contains examples, suggestions, and inspiration from around the province: 1) Building on the Block Party; 2) Good Stuff (more sharing, less waste); 3) Big Wins (supporting long-term choices); 4) Next-Level Food (healthy eating practices; less wasted food); 5) Life Changes (moments of life transition leading to new habits and traditions); 6) Cultivating Connection (building a more inclusive community); 7) Lighter Living Super Challenge (a multi-year effort in your neighbourhood).
