With the municipal elections just around the corner – October 15th – those of you on Southern Vancouver Island that may not as yet have completed your selection of Mayoral or Council candidates (let alone those for school and park boards) may find the following list and West Coast Climate Action Network (WE-CAN) map of interest to you. As I’ve been told, there are so far 196 climate champions that have stepped forward as candidates for their respective posts across the Province. 151 of those (shown in green) have received endorsements from local or regional climate action groups. Those of you within the City of Victoria might also be interested in the VCAT 2022 Municipal Candidate Survey.
As the organizers have requested, if you are aware of an endorsement not on the map or you feel the map contains inaccurate information, please contact Mari at WE-CAN (mari@westcoastclimateaction.ca). They “will be updating this map on a rolling basis as we approach the election.” And feel free to forward to others that you know would appreciate this information.

Greater Victoria Teachers Association – SD61 Trustees Endorsed – Go to gvta.net
Out of these, my personal shortlist for Trustees would be Nicole Duncan, Angela Carmichael, Mavis David, Karin Kwan, Diane McNally and Rob Paynter. Although Ann Whiteaker was not endorsed, I would absolutely vote for her too. She really championed a lot of causes. One strategy is to vote for the ones you are really sure of so as not to dilute your vote.
Do NOT vote for anyone with VIVA by their name.
Transitions Sooke has endorsed
– Susan Belford
– Anna Russell
– Robin Holm
– Allison Watson for Trustee
SD62 (Sooke Area)
Allison Watson was instrumental in helping to get $11 million in extra funding from the Ministry of Education to help schools reach their carbon reduction targets.
There is a slate out in Sooke calling themselves Elections for Change 2022, very similar to VIVA and associated with the PPC. Please keep hate out or our elections: antihate.ca
