In Saturday’s local elections, out of 256 confirmed results, 148 climate champions candidates were elected.

57.5% of the candidates who were either endorsed by a local climate action group, or who self-declared as a climate champion with WE-CAN, were elected to positions as mayor, councilor, or a school district trustee. You can find the complete results here.

There was obvious disappointment in Vancouver, although Adriane Carr, Pete Frye and Christine Boyle were all re-elected, but this is balanced by the success of climate champions elsewhere, including:

  • 7 in North Vancouver (including the Mayor)
  • 3 in Chilliwack
  • 4 in Gibson
  • 4 in Squamish (including the Mayor) – and no climate-delaying democracy-bulldozers elected
  • 5 in New Westminster
  • 14 in Burnaby
  • 3 in Coquitlam
  • 5 in Port Moody
  • 3 in Kelowna
  • 6 in Victoria (including the Mayor)
  • 6 in Saanich (including the Mayor)
  • 5 in Esquimalt
  • 5 in Nanaimo
  • 3 in Parksville
  • 7 for the Ladysmith/Nanaimo School Board
  • 7 in Courtenay (including the Mayor)
  • and many others…

Many congratulations to everyone who was elected, and everyone who campaigned to help them win.
