Bowker Creek Chum Salmon Recovery begins our Streamkeepers survey of habitat and water quality in August. Please come out and join us.
We are forming as a new streamkeeper group with one clear focus – restore a population of salmon in Bowker Creek.
Bowker Creek has been home to salmon and trout for thousands of years – except for the past century. It’s time for them to return. Bowker Creek Chum Salmon Recovery combines action with citizen science:
- working with Fisheries and Oceans Canada toward releasing salmon fry in the creek,
- assessing habitat and water quality,
- restoring habitat in the creek.
Bowker Creek Chum Salmon Recovery links Friends of Bowker Creek Society, Oak Bay High School and Peninsula Streams Society. We build on their good work and on achievements of the Bowker Creek Initiative, which joins Victoria, Saanich and Oak Bay civic governments with CRD coordination.

We will need volunteers for:
- work along the stream in assessment and habitat restoration, and with Oish,
- communication, public education, media, relationships with neighbours, institutions and governments,
- membership, coordination and caring for volunteers, fundraising and grant-writing
