Professional engineers can lead the way to halt fossil fuel expansion. Having recently attended a climate action talk this week hosted by the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of BC it was extremely encouraging to hear how engineers are now questioning their liability, ethics and moral responsibility when it comes to fossil fuel projects based on their vow to “hold paramount the safety, health and welfare of the public and the protection of the environment, and promote health and safety within the workplace.” This Is Leadership!
The Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of BC, the Climate Change Advisory Group, and the Sustainability Committee work closely to provide expert advice on environmental and energy-related matters, and consider the impacts of climate change. They have developed professional practice guidelines to ensure climate resilience is incorporated in engineering design, developed sustainability guidelines, and building energy modelling guidelines.
