The economy – linked to equity – is one of the 10 principles of Bioregional’s One Planet Living framework. But what sort of local economy do we need that respects both ecologically sustainable and socially just development. A number of different models are being proposed, including the Wellbeing Economy, the Circular Economy and the Doughnut Economy. What would that mean and what would it look like in our region?

- Jill Doucette, Founder and CEO, Synergy Institute, Victoria – host of the Project Zero Circular Economy program. Jill founded Synergy in 2008 after completing her studies in biology. Passionate about how business, industry and communities can mobilize towards a low-carbon future, Jill works on the frontier of a number of sectors including community development, tourism, and clean technology
- Councillor Ben Geselbracht, champion of Doughnut and Circular Economy resolutions in Nanaimo. Ben is a Nanaimo city Councillor and Regional district Director. He is a strong advocate for environmental sustainability and an economy that works for everyone. Ben is also passionate about the development of the circular economy and recently, the doughnut economy and is working to apply these principles both in civic governance and his tree service business.
