This presentation will summarize the protracted journey on public policies respecting the protection of biodiversity, species at risk and their habitat in British Columbia, and the urgent need to finally “walk the talk” during the next session of the newly elected Legislative Assembly of British Columbia, with the tabling of government bills for new provincial legislation.
*Yves Mayrand’s professional background is law and business (LL.L. from Université de Montréal; MBA from Concordia University). He is retired and is a permanent resident of B.C. living on the traditional territory of the Lekwungen peoples (Esquimalt and Songhees First Nations). He is the author of several submissions on current public policy issues in British Columbia over the last four years, including a detailed comment on the B.C. Conservation Financing Mechanism (BCCFM), the Tripartite Framework Agreement on Nature Conservation between Canada, British Columbia and the First Nations Leadership Council (Tripartite Agreement), and the draft B.C. Biodiversity and Ecosystem Health Framework (BEHF) announced in November of last year.
