From Concern to Action: Introducing the PREPARE Framework

Preparing for climate change starts with people.

Re.Climate’s PREPARE Framework shows communicators how to build agency, care and trust with their audiences the three conditions that turn climate concern into community action.

Canada’s Changing Climate 2026 report outlines what is coming: more warming and worse fires, heat events, floods and droughts. People are already living with these impacts and want to know what can be done.

Over the last two years, Re.Climate has worked with ClimateWest, the regional hub for climate services in the Prairies, and SevGen Consulting Inc., an Indigenous-owned consulting firm, on the Climate Ready Prairies project, developing training and guidance on communicating and engaging with communities in Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba on climate adaptation and preparedness. Now we are excited to share how this work and insights from the region can be useful to anyone across Canada.

The PREPARE Framework distills that work from the Climate Ready Prairies project into a clear set of practices It was developed with and for Prairie communities but offers an approach that communicators in the other parts of the country can use and adapt.

The PREPARE Framework is a valuable tool for anyone helping their community to get ready for climate impacts.

The webinar will touch on how communicating about adaptation differs from mitigation, how Indigenous and regional knowledge and expertise shaped the framework, and the latest on framing and language that can build understanding of climate preparedness. Register here
