On the 5 year anniversary of the heat dome, join the BC Heat Collaborative and Seniors for Climate South Okanagan in commemoration of the over 600 people who died and to demand municipalities and the BC government ensure heat safety for all!
This is a commemoration and solidarity gathering with important stories being shared, music, and calls to action to mark the largest climate related mass casualty event in recorded Canadian history, and help ensure the right to safe temperatures for everyone. Sunday, June 28 from 1 to 2:30 PM at Gyro Park, Main St, Penticton
Asking the Province
– Right to cool and maximum heat legislation and bylaws for all residential buildings.
– ‘Too hot to work’ standards employers must follow.
– Increased tree canopy for equity deserving neighbourhoods and public spaces (bus stops, sidewalks, bike lanes & routes).
– Full implementation of the Coroner’s directives from the 2021 Heat Dome Death Panel Review
– Expanded home renovation funding for equity deserving groups including people with disabilities and those with low income.
– Strong action to rapidly reduce carbon emissions. Stop expanding fossil fuels and invest more in renewable energy.
