Helmcken House Tour

Construction of Helmcken House began in 1852 to provide a home for newlyweds Dr. John Sebastian Helmcken and Cecilia Douglas (daughter of Sir James and Lady Douglas). It remains on its original site and is the second oldest house in BC. It was occupied by the Helmcken family until 1939 when it became a museum. John Adams will share the fascinating stories about how the house was built, and its evolution as a historic site. During December, the OCS’s Christmas tours at the Old Burying Ground (Dec. 6) and Ross Bay Cemetery (Dec. 13) will include stories about Helmcken family graves. Meet at the front entrance to Helmcken House, located beside the Royal BC Museum, next to Thunderbird Park.
