Pension Funds Rally

Are your pension funds tied to poor logging practices? Support initiatives by our local Island communities! Join SOFT-CV (Save Our Forests Team, Comox Valley) for a rally in Victoria at the office of BC Investment Management Corp (BCI).

BCI is the major shareholder in both TimberWest and Island Timberlands, which together own most of the forested land on the east coast of Vancouver Island from Victoria to Campbell River. Mosaic Forest Management manages their forest operations. If you are a BC public servant (a teacher, college or university staff; a BC or municipal government employee; or work for Island Health, BC Hydro, BC Ferries, WorkSafe, and others), there’s a very good chance that BCI is using your pension to fund poor forestry practices, fueling climate change, continuing logging of old growth, and contributing to water shortage and quality issues on the east coast of Vancouver Island!

If BCI puts pressure on TimberWest / Island Timberlands / Mosaic to log better, these companies will have to comply. But pension holders must put pressure on BCI first. This rally is one step in this process.

Spread the word and plan to join us. If you can, come early (12:40) to help us sing/chant so that BCI will know we are there! We will highlight what you can do and deliver a second ultimatum to BCI, that they must use their ownership to set forestry in a new direction on their lands.
