The Power of Forests – Protecting Communities and nature with a New Forests Act

Saturday, September 14 @ 12:00 pm - 4:30 pm

Dear friends, Forest Protectors, Water Stewards, and Wildlife Advocates,
We invite you to join us in Nanaimo this Saturday, September 14, 12-4:30pm as we discuss ways to give relief to our exhausted forests, so they can continue to give us life.

Refreshments will be provided – but please bring your own mug. It’s happening in the Beban Park Social Centre, from 12pm to 4:30pm.
We are trying to protect our homes from the negative impacts of industrial forestry.  With the massive loss of old growth and primary forests to industrial forestry, communities are at risk. We’re facing more drought, fire, and floods, and more threats to our drinking water.
The Power of Forests brings together diverse partners to ensure forests on BC ‘public land’ are protected by law so that nature’s needs such as biodiversity, ecosystem function (including the provision of quality water), wildlife habitat, and climate mitigation are prioritized over corporate interests. The gathering is hosted by the Beaufort Watershed Stewards, the Yellow Point Ecological Society, and Save Our Forests Team – Comox Valley.
The New Forest Act we are proposing is intended to replace current legislation which favors industrial degradation over community well-being.

The New Forest Act proposal will be presented.  These events will empower, equip, and activate people to push their politicians into supporting a change to legislation.  Local watershed, forestry reform, and Indigenous people will share information and knowledge.
Among other things, Daniel Arbour will present his proposal that regulation for the Private Managed Forest Lands (the MOSAIC forest lands on the E&N land grant) be transferred from the Ministry of Forests to the Regional Districts.
