Even though it’s not as big a topic in the news these days, there are still some major updates on Fairy Creek that you should know:
• Climate activists and land defenders are still facing legal issues. Zain Haq, a climate activist married to a Canadian citizen, was deported on January 26th despite support from the community and politicians including MP Elizabeth May.
• The deferral on old growth logging in Fairy Creek expires on February 1st. Long-term protection for old growth is on the table under the new government, but not guaranteed yet. We need the deferral to be extended to fill the gap before we have more permanent protection in place.

URGENT CALL TO ACTION ❗️❗️❗️❗️
CALL/EMAIL DAVID EBY (250-387-1715) and the BC forestry minister to voice your support for an extended deferral and long-term old growth protection.

CALL IMMIGRATION MINISTER MARC MILLER (613-995-6403) to voice your upset at Zain’s deportation and support for helping him return to Canada and continue his life with his Canadian marital partner.
