GVAT’s Climate Action Research Team launched their Tuesdays for Trees campaign on the first Tuesday of the New Year.  Due to the current Covid restrictions, only a few of us set up signage and a repurposed Xmas tree at the Legislature and walked with signs around the block.  Today, we are celebrating Tuesdays for Trees by inviting you to participate!

Our goal: To raise public awareness and maintain pressure on decision-makers regarding the importance of trees in protecting us from climate change to keep BC beautiful and healthy.  We are pushing for timely, fully funded implementation of the recommendations of the report of the Old Growth Strategy Review Panel. https://engage.gov.bc.ca/app/uploads/sites/563/2020/09/STRATEGIC-REVIEW-20200430.pdf

Our hope: That Tuesdays for Trees will grow just like Fridays for the Future did, which was started by one lone Swedish teenager on the steps of the Swedish Legislature.

How you can help:  Sponsor a Tuesdays For Trees event at the legislature or elsewhere, live or virtual.  Then send us photos for our online Tuesdays for Trees campaign.

Here are some action ideas:

–          Host a prayer vigil or Blessing of the Trees

–          Collect forest-inspired art from children and deliver it to the Minister of Forests

–          Host an educational event or documentary-watching event

The only limit is your imagination, and the only condition is that Tuesdays For Trees celebrations must fit with current Covid Public Health orders and recommendations.
