This is a key moment for us to ensure the many plants and animals that call B.C. home can thrive. And you can help!

Local governments have the power to adopt or amend bylaws that support greater biodiversity, and it is up to us residents to urge them to take action. With knowledge and guidance from experienced mentors, we can make a difference!

Sierra Club BC is collaborating with former Victoria City Councilor Jeremy Loveday to offer a series of workshops to help motivated residents “move the dial” on biodiversity issues at their city councils. We will come together for a series of workshops that will..

  • demystify the process of influencing local government,
  • find and support local government climate champions, and
  • help cities and towns pass bylaws that nurture local species and increase climate resilience.

The Biodiversity in Local Communities: A Mentorship Project for Moving the Dial at City Council workshops include two 90-minute online sessions with Jeremy Loveday, on May 1st and 8th from 7:00-8:30 pm.

We will learn about existing rules and regulations that impact biodiversity and how they can be improved, and share strategies and materials that local governments can respond to and actually use in their decision-making.

After the workshops, we will work together to bring key items to your local government, with the goal of passing resolutions, amending or creating bylaws, and taking other meaningful action on issues that help restore ecosystem health in your community.

Dates: Two Monday evening sessions on May 1st and 8th
Time: 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm
Capacity: 30 participants
