We acknowledge that CERBC is not the first to be advocating for climate action and that Indigenous peoples have been leading and are continuing to initiate this work across Turtle Island. We are thankful to reside, work and organize on traditional, unceded and stolen territories of Indigenous peoples across so called “British Columbia.”

The Future We Fear

As youth who grew up unaware of the magnitude of the looming Climate Crisis, our team’s concern arose knowing how complacent our governments and the educational system has remained amidst the downfall and unnecessary destruction of our natural world.

Our biggest fear is that while the BC Ministry continues to neglect the Climate Emergency, youth like ourselves will lack the knowledge and skills to face the Crisis while also being forced to bear the disastrous results of current day inaction.

Climate Change is not just an issue for scientists and professionals. Climate Change threatens the well-being of all of our futures, but most importantly, our vulnerable populations. All aspects of our society, including our educational system, must treat this Climate Crisis as the true humanitarian Emergency that it is.

Our youth team at Climate Education Reform BC knows that to create a more equitable and just future, our society needs to take drastic, bold, and intersectional climate action that doesn’t leave anyone behind. This strive for justice can begin with education, as the foundation that prepares youth to care for our futures.

About Us

Who We Are

Climate Education Reform BC consists of high school students from across so-called “British Columbia” who recognize the lack of attention Climate Change has in our school communities. Like our name implies, youth in our organization desire to reform the education system, alongside reform society’s outlook on Climate Change to become more proactive and justice-seeking. We are advocating for an inclusive and intersectional Climate Change educational system, and we will not rest until we get it.

Our Purpose

Our purpose is to advocate for an education system that fully addresses the systemic and underlying causes for the Climate Crisis. In addition to the root of the Crisis being clearly identified in school settings, we also desire for our educational systems to highlight the interconnected and inseparable nature of climate justice and social justice. These aspects are essential to create the just, equitable, and empowering education

system that we want to see. In other words, our purpose is to hold schools accountable to adequately prepare students for the climate emergency to ensure that our future is led by informed and equipped communities.

Our Reform to Transform Campaign

This campaign aims to highlight our focus as an organization: to reform the BC education system in order to transform the current state of our climate. By incorporating Climate change education cross-curricularly into the K-12 curriculum, students will be well-equipped to navigate the worsening Climate Crisis as they move on from schools. Education is the basis of social and environmental reform, so we are launching this campaign to transform the state of our planet before it is too late.

The Future We Need

Though the Climate Crisis is daunting, youth like ourselves know that we must advocate with everything that we’ve got to create a better world. To accomplish this, we can start with ourselves and our own communities, and build a better future. We need you involved to help us get there! Ways you can help are below.
