Hello Bateman Foundation Friends,
We have exciting news we want to share with you.
The Bateman Gallery is moving!
We are investing in a new space to fully integrate art, nature, and education, creating a new cultural centre accessible to all.
This means we will end our two exhibitions: Bateman: Heart & Home, and The World of Robert Bateman by mid-February, so if you haven’t already seen them, be sure to visit before they are gone.
We will continue running our education and NatureSketch programs in partnership with cultural institutions, and our online shop will continue accepting and processing orders. For more information about our announcement to move, please see our media release.
With careful consideration and discussions with local art and cultural organizations, we reached out to the Maritime Museum of BC to collaborate on an interim exchange of spaces allowing both organizations to achieve long-term goals. Working with the Maritime Museum, the City of Victoria, and the Ministry of Transportation, we hope to secure a temporary space at 744 Douglas Street in Victoria, BC, with the aim of launching exhibits in April while the Foundation prepares to create our new accessible and integrated art and nature centre.
To grow and deliver our mission, we know it is time to evolve in how we share art and education, and care of our collections to leave a lasting legacy. Moving and solidifying a partnership with the community and cultural institutions is how we can adapt to the changing needs and expectations of how people want to interact with art.
We have been incredibly fortunate to deliver quality exhibitions and programs in the past ten years. We know it is because of the solid support we have received from our partners, sponsors, donors, members, and volunteers.
We hope to count on your support as we transform the Bateman Foundation. There are many ways you can support us during this venture: donate towards our new space or for those in Victoria and British Columbia, you can voice your support and contact the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture and your local representative.
Thank you again for your incredible support and please get in touch with me at sponsorships@
Hello. I am wondering if the new Bateman Centre would consider having an outdoor wall mural done by professional wall-mural artists that would feature native species in BC and highlight the fact that grey wolves are part of a vibrant ecosystem? I am looking for wallspace to feature the work of two amazing artists who have agreed to take this on, and I have secured a grant for the work. If needed, the mural could be done on a platform that would maintain the original wall surface. Thank you for considering this request. I am working towards this goal to help advance public interest in oposing BC’s wolf-killing program and celebrating Nature and the predator-prey systems in our province.
Hi Sadie, thank you for your comment. I suggest reaching out to the Bateman Centre/Foundation directly as they don’t monitor comments on our website. Best of luck!
