On Monday, Feb. 22nd, Saanich Council will be deliberating on the future of the Panama Flats. The 2013 master plan for this remarkable 62-acre property has the ingredients of bird and wildlife sanctuary, wetlands, walking paths, Garry Oak preservation, flood plan storage and farmland. Ten years on we see the resurgence of remarkable biodiversity on the lands and the growing community interest to preserve this wonderful natural capital for all time.

Meanwhile, the questionable economic viability of a possible farm use raises the need for sober discussion of its suitability for placing into the potential CRD Farm Land Trust. The community have suggested other, smaller sized, more suitable options of lands be considered for farming. Let the District of Saanich know what you think.
