The Blue Water Task Force (BWTF), Surfrider South Vancouver Island’s volunteer-run water testing education and advocacy program, aims to promote environmental stewardship and ensure safe and healthy access to coastal habitats. We sample water from more than 15 different recreational beaches and test for Enterococcus (marine), so the public can enjoy their ocean activities safely. Check the Test Results every week for an update.
The Blue Water Task Force has recently teamed up with the Saanich Inlet Protection Society to support their efforts to find the source (human or animal) of bacteria entering the Saanich Inlet. With those results, they hope to identify potential solutions to reduce the impact of bacteria in this area.
Visit the website and email bwtf@svi.surfrider.ca for more info on how to get involved.
Be advised that after heavy rains, it is recommended that people not go into the ocean for at least 24-48 hours because of all the polluted stormwater runoff that flows from our streets into the ocean.
