The Redfish School of Change is an Environmental Studies field program open to ES students at the University of Victoria and at Western Washington University. Now entering its tenth year, this field school takes students on a tour through the the communities on both sides of
the Canada-US border around the Salish Sea.
I was a student who attended the program in the Summer of 2018. As part of our course work for our Ethno-ecology class with Brenda Beckwith, we had to create small-group community maps of our experience in the Salish Sea. With the help of Ken Josephson at the UVIC Community Mapping Collabratory, we created our large canvas maps while out in the field on our program.
This is my group’s community map of the meaning we found in the Salish Sea.
