Fall Go By Bike Week is returning September 27th to October 3rd and, after a spring hiatus, the always-popular Celebration Stations are back!
“Community is incredibly important, so I’m thrilled that we can bring our community of riders and local supporters back together again for this positive and free event that is open to everyone,” says Sarah Frumento, Event Coordinator for Capital Bike.
All Ages and Abilities infrastructure is essential to growing participation in this event and making cycling feel safe and comfortable for everyone. “The City of Victoria has shown incredible leadership in building the All Ages and Abilities cycling network. This infrastructure has changed lives and helped families ride for the first time and for others, it got them riding again after decades of driving.”, adds Adam Krupper, Executive Director for Capital Bike.
Last year the event changed from “Bike to Work Week” to “Go By Bike Week”, thus opening the event up to every type of ride. “We built the All Ages and Abilities cycling network so that everyone can feel safe riding, and I love that Fall Go By Bike Week rewards people who are using and discovering this awesome network of connected bicycle facilities”, says Mayor Helps.
The bike lane network has opened up new opportunities in the city for people to access and support local businesses. “During the pandemic, when we saw fewer people coming downtown for work, we saw how the cycling network kept funnelling people downtown, supporting local businesses,” says Jeff Bray, Executive Director for the Downtown Victoria Business Association.
Capital Bike is proud to be building on our relationship with Eddy Charlie and Kristin Spray of Victoria Orange Shirt Day, by supporting reconciliation through our event as Fall Go By Bike Week coincides with the first Truth and Reconciliation Day in BC.
