The Haida Gwaii goshawk (Accipiter gentilis laingi) is facing a real threat of local extinction. At the same time, the American Goshawk (Accipiter atricapillus) is vanishing from the Skeena Natural Resource Region quickly because too much mature and old-growth habitats are being destroyed thus collapsing the ecosystem needs for goshawk and other plant and wildlife species..
The Gitsegukla Huwilp of the Gitxsan Nation, who’s behind the petition to get goshawks some legal protection, really values and appreciates the decision of the Council of the Haida Nation to stand with us. We plan to urge our province to act quickly to make sure the right habitat protections are in place, so goshawks don’t completely disappear in northwestern BC.
The petition document goes into all the details. It includes a link to a Jotform online petition form on page 7 that you can sign with any digital device. Can you support this important cause please?
Sincerely,
Larry Joseph,
