A good guy I know named Francis Landy has created a petition to ban gas-powered leaf blowers in Oak Bay. Please sign and/or share it with others via email, Facebook or any form of social media.
This cause is very close to my heart as I’ve been made painfully aware of how destructive these machines are to the environment. Not only do they produce an unusually high amount of fossil fuels for such a small machine, but they inflict a lot of damage to insect and bird populations which are in critical decline due to human irresponsibility.
At the very least we should be switching to electric leaf blowers, and using landscaping companies that focus on renewable technologies and have been using very successfully over the years. It’s a lot less expensive to maintain electric blowers than gas ones, so if you’re employed as a landscaper you absolutely can switch to renewables and still make a profit!
It would be relatively easy to have battery powered units by having one charging while the other is being used.
