An ancient forest is a home to more life than we can imagine. The project of colonization has left less than 3% of what once stood.

On February 25 a united movement of thousands of people will be sending a clear message to the provincial government: Keep your promises and protect old-growth forests.

The peaceful march and rally will begin at Centennial Square (City Hall) in Victoria (Lekwungen territory) at noon, proceeding to the lawn of the Legislature for a rally at 1:30 p.m. featuring powerful speakers and performers.

I hope you’ll join us! You can find more details about the forest event and RSVP here on Facebook:https://fb.me/e/3dmFYy5EE or on Eventbrite: bit.ly/united4oldgrowth

    2. Can add these additionally as a thread:
      1. This is a movement for all people, which is reflected in the list of signatories including @UBCIC, @bcgeu, @ClimateLC & many more. Together, they are calling on the province to implement a paradigm-shift in forest stewardship to safeguard biodiversity.
      2. And most importantly, the signatories are calling on the province to align all forest management with the principles of free, prior and informed consent for First Nations. The declaration draws on @UBCIC 2022-32, affirmed by Chiefs in June 2022.
      3. The most at-risk #OldGrowth forests are still being clearcut while B.C. stalls on implementing emergency logging bans aka deferrals. The deferrals are the bare minimum and most urgent recommendation of the 2020 OGSR. #bcpoli
      4. “We must do everything in our power to protect these ancient giants and we cannot stop putting pressure on our governments to do their jobs: to protect us and the environment, not act as timber barons.” Grand Chief Stewart Phillip, @UBCIC

  • Hi!Will you join me in standing up for old-growth forests on February 25? There’s a united movement of thousands of people from all walks of life that will be sending a clear message to the provincial government: Keep your promises and protect old-growth forests.

The peaceful march and rally will begin at Centennial Square (City Hall) in Victoria (Lekwungen territory) at noon, proceeding to the lawn of the Legislature for a rally at 1:30 p.m. featuring powerful speakers and performers.

I hope you’ll join me! You can find more details about the forest event and RSVP here on Facebook: https://fb.me/e/3dmFYy5EE or on Eventbrite: bit.ly/united4oldgrowth

Old-growth forests are vital for clean air, clean water and healthy communities. They are also one of our best allies in climate action as they store massive amounts of carbon and help protect communities from climate risks like fires, landslides and floods.

It’s been two years since the BC government promised to protect old-growth forests. But since then, tens of thousands of hectares of the most at-risk stands have been clearcut, and destructive logging practices continue. These forests need our help.

It’s time to show provincial lawmakers that the public wants these vital forests to remain standing for future generations. Together, we are united for old-growth.

I hope you can make it on February 25!!

Sincerely,
