Join Christine Lowther, Tofino’s Poet Laureate for the launch of Worth More Standing: Poets and Activists Pay Homage to Trees Anthology.

About this event

The launch of Worth More Standing: Poets and Activists Pay Homage to Trees will open at 12:30 p.m. and the event will begin at 1:00 p.m. with a reception to follow. Please aim to arrive prior to 1:00 p.m. to get settled in.

To begin, a welcoming and blessing will be offered by Tla-o-qui-aht Elder, Levi Martin. Christine Lowther and fellow poets Joanna Streetly – 2020-2022 Tofino Poet Laureate, David Floody, Sherry Marr, Karen Charleson, Nicole Moen and Jan McDougall will share readings from the anthology. To conclude, the Poet Laureate Working Group will officially welcome the new 2022-2024 Tofino Poet Laureate into their new role.

POINTS OF NOTE

– There is NO PARKING available onsite or near Načiks | Monks Point Park. Please walk, bike, or skip to the event. If you plan to arrive by car, attendees may be dropped at the bottom of the driveway and the driver can then park along Main Street or First Street and walk to the property.

– The site includes an uphill asphalt driveway that all attendees will be required to walk up***. The event will be held outside on a sloped, grassy area next to the house. There are two washrooms available – one on the main floor and one upstairs in the house. The house is not wheelchair accessible.

*** If walking any distance up or down hills, or mobility is a concern, please contact Cindy at events@tofino.ca to discuss options to arrive and navigate onsite safely. A vehicle shuttle is being planned to shuttle anyone up or down the hill that requires assistance.

– Should heavy rain be forecasted, the event will be moved to an indoor location TBD. Notification to ticket holders will go out 24 hours ahead of the event.

– Please bring a picnic blanket to sit on and dress for the weather. The event will be held outside.- There will be some chairs available for elders or those not wishing to sit on the ground.

– There is NO PARKING available on site or near Načiks |Monks Point Park. Please do not park in neighbouring parking lots or block driveways in the area.
